Imagine what it is like to be seven years old moving to a country where you don’t know anyone, you don’t understand the language, and everything seems foreign. When I first arrived to the United States, I didn’t have friends due to my inability to speak English. It wasn’t an easy journey, but my determination to achieve the American Dream gave me strength to keep going. I decided to take English courses during my free time, and now I am a great writer who is fluent in both English and Spanish.
My mother and father have always wanted the best for me, like all good parents do. One of the many things that they expect from me is to receive a college education, something that they never had the chance to do. My parents always advise me to not to make the same mistakes as they did, to go to college so I can get a good job and not have to struggle in my life. With no alternative, my father had to drop out of school to help his family financially after his parents had gotten a divorce, and then he had received his GED.
There are many different things that can impact students in their high school years. Whether these things are friends, activities, or the sports they participate in they all impact the student. Many opportunities are presented to students in high school, although not many impacts the student beyond high school, I believe this opportunity will impact me forever. I would love to be a part of the Early College Program this coming spring. I believe the program will do nothing but help me grow and strive to be a better student and continue being involved.
I got a chance to interview one of American friend of my friend here and I asked him all the questions that I had in my mind about social and academic challenges that I was going through in the US. He told me that it is easy to overcome those challenges and all that I would need is self-motivation. He told me that if I feel difficulty in understanding to professor says, then I should start watching English movies or listen to English songs as it will help me to learn about the English accent and slowly, I will develop understanding towards English
****I knew my junior year of high school what I wanted to do the rest of my life. Stage Manage. I have done theatre from a young age, but it wasn't until I reached high school that I shifted to technical theatre. I want to stage manage because unlike some people I am not searching for wealth, success or recognition. I am looking for happiness.
I am writing to express my interest in applying for the Sophomore of the Year Award for the University of New England. Through my experience as a second year student at the University of New England, I have always been determined to be a leader to and a supporter of my peers. Some qualities that show that I am worthy of the Sophomore of the Year Award includes: Leadership: While a student at UNE, I have dedicated most of my free time to the development of programs on campus such as UNE’s Crew Team, UNE’s Housing Staff as well as The USG Sophomore Class Representative. As a member of UNE’s Crew Team, I have encouraged 6 students who are only involved with one other club to join crew and stay active. Without a good amount of rowers, only a few of our 7 new boats would be filled.
There is a “relationship found in rigorous high school course-load and success in postsecondary education” when the last year of high school is taken seriously to prepare for the future (Bailey et al. 9). Senior year is filled with many joys that students wait years for, but senior year also needs to prepare the students for life after high school. As students have worked diligently and have been fully committed, it is rewarding to finally make it to the special senior year. Seniors look forward to the football games, class seniority, prom, more freedom, and countless other activities. However fun it might be, the last year of high school is not fully preparing students for college or a career.
I am not an average American student. Who speaks fluent English and writes an extraordinary essay. My essay will be weak, but you will understand what I am trying to say. I initiated my journey from Piscataway, New Jersey, with no idea how English is used. I was 15 years old when I started my sophomore year in Piscataway high school.
At the age of 27, I had an epiphany; For my entire adult life, I had not been truly living. After careful consideration of solutions, seemingly endless nights of research, and thorough preparation, my decision was to uproot myself and move from Virginia to Colorado. In the three years that I lived there I learned many things about myself and my surroundings. I discovered the most beautiful and amazing nature scenes and had some exciting adventures. The daily sunshine and glorious views always brought a smile to my face and lifted my spirits.
Although I excel in all my International Baccalaureate classes, the two classes that I excel the most are Biology and Psychology. From a very young age my favorite class has always been a science-related one; ranging from Earth Science to Chemistry. Several factors such as my will to learn, my mentors throughout the years, and my goal in life played a significant role in motivating me to reach success and thrive all this years. My motto in life is, “to never give up”. My will to learn correlates with excelling in most of my classes because I believe that without knowledge we are nothing.
The Greatest Challenge Did you know what you wanted to do when you graduated high school? I did not know what I wanted to do when I graduated so I talked to my family and friends about what should I do. My father and mother wanted me to go to America to study. The idea scared me because I had never been so far away from my family before. I applied for the scholarship and was accepted, so soon I found myself on an airplane to New York.
Graduating High School A day I will never forget was the day that I graduated high school. All the emotions were overwhelming and hard to handle sometimes. It was hard to accept that one of the biggest chapters in my life was about to be over and I was about to start an even bigger one.
NSCS could help me in some of the major issues I face in college. To start with, I'm an international student and it is difficult paying my tuition and fees. My country, Nigeria, is going through some social and economic hardships. This affects the exchange rate in the country's currency to dollars. The rate is a huge difference and I can not cope with it since it is my parents sponsoring my education.
Ever since elementary school, I have excelled in both my science and math classes. I never really had any trouble understanding mathematics; I just imagined the problems in my head and solved them. In fact, I was so good at it, I was hired as a tutor for students who did not perform well in their mathematics courses. My school saw my talent and passion for mathematics and I was given the honor of representing my school for the district math competition every year. Math came naturally for me, so I did not feel the need to study for the subject at all.
Success can be seen differently from everyone's point of view. Success is shown as in you graduate high school. Work a part time so you can buy whatever you'd wish. Learning to drive in high school is a great way to become success. Graduate from college, and after college having a career.
