In 2014, 1.27 billion movie tickets were sold in the United States and Canada (MMPA 2). As an employee of the local movie theater, I only encounter about .03 percent of these people. Working in a theater is a treat and a curse. On one hand you have free movies and free popcorn, and on the other hand, you have the day to day struggle of working in a customer service job. Sometimes you question why you still work there and deal with the types of people who come in. Every day starts the same, I go in, grab my hat and smock, make popcorn, fill candy, fill cups and lids, make more popcorn, and prepare myself for the night I, and three of my fellow co-workers, have ahead of ourselves. This customer has a lot of good and bad moments. On one hand, once you add up their entire order in your head and tell it to them, it usually matches up. This is a nice reassurance that you actually know how to do your job and are fully capable of adding quarters together on the spot. On the other hand, you have the situations when the numbers do not match. 90% of the time the customer is not right and the number you got is right and was right before they made you stand there and add all of the items step by step to them. The other 10% of the time you were actually wrong and you did not add right, which causes a considerable amount of embarrassment and a small amount of doubt in the back of your head about how you passed the money unit in second grade.
