From what I read and what he said, I thought it sounded like he didn’t want to shut down the United States Bank. And then in Document 5, Webster acted like Jackson should put an end to the bank by saying, “It manifestly seeks to inflame the poor against the rich, it wantonly attacks whole classes of the people, for the purposes of turning against them the prejudices and resentment of the other classes.”
Mercantilism caused the colonies to be in debt to England because the goods that they exported were not as valuable as the goods imported from England. This actually benefitted the colonies because it caused the English to subsidize American assets. Although some aspects of mercantilism hurt the colonists, they found loopholes in the system so it didn’t have as bad an impact which helped improve the economy in the
This did cause struggles in the beginning, but eventually paid off in the future by creating more equal politics. When these major events occurred in the Gilded Age, it caused periods of success, failure, and sometimes overall no change. Some outcomes of these new ideas being formed caused corruption, but led to the government and politics becoming much stronger and more organized. Most of the ideas published wanted to increase wealth and rivalries between businesses. Even though the Gilded Age benefited with the reforms created and fell with it’s poor use of money, it helped create the way we run our government
Another reason that they were robber barons was they took down smaller companies so that they could have all of the money in the industry. Rockefeller also manipulated the country's financial system so that he could make more money. Carnegie was also ruthless to his workers. His employees were broke in freezing temperatures and had no food
One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.” He is saying that the bank is being taken over by the rich and that the bank isn’t helping the common men at all.
Jackson was elected in 1828 over John Quincy Adams, as he appealed to the common man and in doing so won over their vote, however, he would advocate for the common man but act in ways that often benefited the himself and the upper class. He did this all in the name of the best interests for the lower-class average citizen. His followers were known as Jacksonian Democrats. When regarding social, political, and economic matters the Jacksonian Democrats regarded themselves as “guardians of the Democracy”, this however was not the case. In reality they simply guarded their own interests as well as supported Jefferson in whatever course he chose.
The Age of Jackson was an era where the common people of the United States were finally represented in their country by the president of the United States of America, Andrew Jackson. Although he was well-off, people called Jackson the “common man” because of his military background and how he was a farmer, instead of being born into a wealthy family and using his status as an advantage. Since the common people had the president’s support, they felt the need to express their opinion on expanding suffrage to themselves. At the time, voting was only available for the rich, land-owning, white males and it was considered a privilege for them. However, the working class reasoned that they should have a say in the country’s decisions since it was their country as well.
United States has always had a good government structural system and lead other countries in the world to do the same. Although we did have a point in time were slavery was a huge economic profit, it was not right. Just as Tocqueville stated “Thus it is in the United States that the prejudice which repels the Negroes seems to increase in proportion as they are emancipated, and inequality is sanctioned by the manners while it is effaced from the laws of the country. But if the relative position of the two races that inhabit the United States is such as I have described, why have the Americans abolished slavery in the North of the Union, why do they maintain it in the South, and why do they aggravate its hardships? The answer is easily given.
In the 1828 presidential election for the United States, Andrew Jackson won in dominating fashion over previous President John Quincy Adams. Jackson, gaining many of his votes from the common white people in the South, went on to have a very controversial two terms of presidency, where he passed multiple impactful laws that made him despised by many people. However, among these laws that some politicians hated, Jackson was trying to improve the economy of the United States. Despite others disagreeing with his methods, when looking at his policies through solely a economic lense, it is clear that he aided our country. Andrew Jackson helped the American economy grow due to his policies regarding land distribution to American citizens, policies
The play “Fences” by August Wilson portrayed capitalism as an evil that allows the corrupt to win and takes the little bit of money the poor have. The way the big grocery store A&P dominates smaller stores like Bella’s. It corrupts people just like it did to the black man who won the lottery to only start a business that discriminate against his own people. Also, a sells man in the play is compared to the devil for making a deal with Troy and punishing him for years. Over all Wilson made it clear with his strong points against capitalism in America throughout this entire play.
