A wide range of legislation, statutory guidance, policies and procedures support the safely and welfare of children and young people. This includes policies relating to health and wellbeing, safety and security, personal care and individual rights.
When working with children it is important that practitioners know that they have a duty of care towards them and the safety of the children is of paramount. According to the UN convention on the rights of the child (1989): children have the right to learn and develop, they have the right to be protected from harm and make choices. Children learn and develop by making choices, exploring and experimenting within the environment that surrounds them but they do not always posses the skill and judgement to make safe choices and decisions at all times. Therefore it is the responsibility of the practitioner to identify any potential dangers, and make the decision on when it is safe to allow the child to undertake an activity or make a decision.
I have been working in the care industry for the past three years. During these three years I 've had the opportunity to work within different care settings, from the elderly, learning disability, challenging behaviours and supported live in to name a few. Throughout this period I managed to obtain countless caring skills working in a community and hospital setting. Intro: Public policy can play a vital role in improving the health of South Carolina's population by addressing the most significant social determinants of health, such as poverty, access to healthcare, and environmental conditions. Body: In South Carolina, 1 in 5 people live in poverty, and over 20% of the population lacks health insurance. These social determinants of health significantly impact the overall health of the population. For example, people in poverty are more likely to suffer from chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. They are also more likely to experience stress and depression, which can lead to poor health outcomes.
I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. It is with great passion that I am dedicated and willing to contribute my service or skills to help someone in need. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public health.
The purpose of health promotion is to notify individuals about current thinking on how to live healthily. It aims to inspire people to adopt health lifestyle choices. Health promotion should be hands-on in tackling health- related challenges and issues. An example of an issue that can be targeted by health promotion is the increase of obesity in this country and the issues that arise from this, such as the price of the NHS of treatment for conditions arising from obesity and the increase in obesity related deaths. Introduction Primary care is said to be the “first point of contact” for people when accessing the health care system in Ireland (Department of health and children 2001). The World health organisation(1978) outline that one of the main roles of primary health care is to provide access to care for the most vulnerable but also to identify and rectify the factors which lead to their early mortality. The Alma Ata declaration (1978) was a huge milestone in the development of primary care and they explain how essential it is for all populations’ health. Unfortunately the vulnerable populations in Ireland suffer the effects of the social determinates and also the health inequalities and die younger because they put up with a healthcare system which “places lesser value on the lives of those with lesser means” (Wren 2002).
Wellness coaching is growing rapid over the years to help improve the quality of life and breaking old habits. It is becoming an active strategy in many therapeutic fields to be used to help with prevention, health promotion, and encouraging individuals to make a change for the better (Clark, 2013). Wellness coaching is based off positive psychology to help motivate and help people to reach their goals in their health (Collins, 2009). Wellness coaching focuses on the individual’s well-being and overall health by giving the individual support, motivation, and goals to get to where the individual wants to be (Grodzki & Allen, 2005). Wellness coaches are trained to help individuals to work towards his her goals that are focused on wellness and physical health (Nelson & Shckley, 2013).
