Blame it All on the Parents In his article “First Blame the Parents”, Fajgri Raghab writes about the ill treatment of domestic maids by their employers in Kuwait. According to Fakhri many of these families show no mercy towards their maids and treat them inhumanely. He states that these maids and servants are bound to perform various duties that include car washing, cooking, watering the garden, cleaning, and laundry on top of taking care of children. He also mentions that how badly these maids are abused for minor mistakes that includes delay in serving lunch, or even the quality of food being below expectation. “Parents leave early morning for work, leaving behind their children for domestic workers to take care of on top of house-hold duties that include car washing, watering the garden, cooking, laundry etc.” This claim is not true most of the parents in Kuwait take their children to school by themselves. It is witnessed in all schools most of the children arrive with their parents and refrain from using school buses. Readers would feel aggrieved and insulted from the illogical claim made by the author. The way they are portrayed by Fakhri is very negative and far from truth. In his opinion he has shown how parents run away from their responsibilities where as in reality they have to encounter the penalties that are imposed on them for arriving late at work, as they were busy in transporting their children to school. The author could have chosen a more balanced statement for example, “Maids in Kuwait do an excellent job that are bound to perform various duties that include car washing, cooking, watering the garden, cleaning, etc and we need to acknowledge the hardships undertaken by maids and other domestic workers.” Furthermore, Fakhri could express some appreciation towards those citizens who provide extra care and harmony towards their domestic
