The new era of management is the textbook that written by Richard L. Daft and is using by us now. To know more about this textbook, I would like to find 4 others management textbook to compare those book with this book. The four management books that I have chosen are management 4th edition written by Stephen P. Robbins, management 2nd edition written by Pamela S. Lewis, Stephen H. Goodman & Patricia M. Fandt, management current practices and new direction written by Bruno Dyck & Mitchell J. Neubert, and management 6th edition written by Chuck Williams.

Besides that, our textbook has given some history about the transform of the four management function through the five tasks listed by Peter Drucker which are set objectives, organize, motivate and communicate, measure and develop people. Besides this, some of the used of the resources in an effective and efficient ways also different. For example, the physical recourses is not in our textbook while the raw materials and technological recourses are not in this …show more content…

According to this book, mintzberg found that the manager did any activities and his deskwork only used 22% of their time while the Fayol says that manager spend a lot of time on their deskwork. In our textbook, there is only explanation of Peter Drucker to the definition of management and the four function. Besides that, this book has giving extra explanation on how Mintzberg’s sub-roles associated with each of the function. The sub-roles of Mintzberg in planning are entrepreneur, negotiator, and spokesperson. The sub-role in organizing is recourse allocator. The sub-roles in leading are leader, liaison, and disseminator. Sub-roles in controlling are monitor, crisis handler, and figurehead.
