Hindustan Motors is not only an oldest automobile company from India, but it’s a legacy carried forward till today. The journey started in the year of 1942, as a part of Birla group. It is also one of the three oldest car makers of India. It continuously ruled the market for car sales in India till 1980s. Hindustan motors gave India its own style and power statement & widely used by government officials and Politicians car named Ambassador. Some call it Limousine and some call it Rolls-Royce of India. Ambassador was never offered as openly as its competitor’s products. The company had only one dealer in the sub-major cities, so the people had to wait for a long time to receive an ambassador, where it was very easy to get other brands car, with more features at lower prices. The company was getting over 16% of its total sales from government, as it still was the first choice of Beaurocrats, which affected its distribution to the public. Slowly and gradually it lost its importance because Ambassador was never changed with times. It made some fancy changes from 1958-2000 as upgrades named Mark II, Mark III, Mark IV, beyond these fancy changes there was no value addition between these upgrades. The look and the built quality were remained same. There was only major update occurred in early 90’s when the brand introduced an 1800cc ISUZU engine.
