I try to bring a new message to assembly on Monday mornings. I do this to maintain your interest and hopefully minimise the number of students who might otherwise be tempted to fall asleep! I also do it to leave with you each week a new thought or idea, something that you can take away and think about after the assembly has come to a close. My talk today is a little different, however, because I am going to talk about a topic that I have already spoken to you about; at an assembly exactly one year ago. This morning I want to stress again the importance of facing up to your responsibilities.
One afternoon last week a Form 1 student at another school was killed on his way home. He was struck by a mini-bus whilst crossing the road and received

On Page 19 of the Student Handbook is a section called The Charter of Rights and Responsibilities. You would have noticed that the Charter comes before the School Rules, rules that cover the next 20 pages. There are four basic Rights and Responsibilities that all of us, and by that I mean students and teachers, should adhere to.
Firstly, we have the right to be respected. We have the right to be valued as a human being and treated with dignity. Nobody at St. Paul’s College should be made to feel underrated or undervalued; we are of equal value. But it is also our responsibility to respect the rights and feelings of others. We must acknowledge the fact that others will have different opinions to our own and have the right to express their views.
Secondly, we have the right to a clean, healthy and safe environment. We have the right to come to school each day knowing that we will be safe, that we will not be hurt, bullied or placed in any danger and that our health and well-being will be protected. But it is also our responsibility to respect and protect our environment by making sure that the school grounds are kept clean, that the classrooms remain healthy and that we do not place anybody else in
By writing “when the ideas, values, and speech of the other side are seen not just as wrong but as willfully aggressive toward innocent victims, it is hard to imagine the kind of mutual respect, negotiation, and compromise that are needed to make politics a positive-sum game”, the authors exhibit their feelings that perceiving differing opinions as aggressive is the wrong viewpoint. Connecting the disputes at college campuses to affecting politics develops a pressing feeling that something needs to change. Many people may view the culture at universities as something that doesn’t affect them or matter, and the writers of this article hope and try to change this outlook by constantly referencing how the increased amount of coddling and protectiveness will poorly affect the future of the students as well as the
Even though teachers are protected by the First Amendment they must avoid speech that creates a negative impact on proper discipline and decorum. "Free speech by teachers, however, is limited to the requirement that such speech does not create a material disruption to the educational interest of the school district" (Essex, 2012, p. 204). Watt is justified
Honor codes are an important and controversial topics on the universities on America. Many professor and students defend honor codes, by saying that are creating a culture of trust, and are they are also created to stop plagiarisms. At the same time many professor and students are against honor codes by saying that, honor codes are outdated and that is not including the new culture that students behold and has not increase plagiarize Lynn Morton is a professor at Queens University, in charge of giving a speech ` `Choosing Honor`for the new students of the class of 2008. She starts her speech by welcoming them and telling them that she has a college student daughter, and why she is related to honor codes. During her speech she explains why honor codes are one of the most important topics at the Queen University and why does she believes that
Working within our school setting  we work in an open and transparent manor This includes ensuring , all doors have glass panels in or be left open so that we can be seen as we teach, this is set in place to discourage any false allegations of occurrences of abuse as it can be disproved and can also protect teachers them self from having abuse. By doing so we are allowing open teaching which can dissolve any accusations made by either students or staff. Listening to children-  All staff members to ensure they make time to listen to their pupils as it could raise concern regarding the child’s welfare as when a child is willing to speak and feels comfortable and safe enough to open up it is the staffs duty to ensure this child is listened to and taken seriously.
Today’s college students are becoming more sensitized to the harshness of the outside world. Instead of learning to be resilient to others’ comments, they are being taught to take offense to any little word that could in some way be connected with a bad experience they might have had, and college administrators and professors are aiding this childish behavior. They are backing this movement to make adults into children. With this new movement to rid college campuses of any speech that may make anyone feel uncomfortable, students are being treated less like adults, and more like elementary children.
The children in a school are valued, with an environment that fully encourages and celebrates their learning and progression and how they are developing. The provision of a safe and secure learning environment for all its pupils should be provided through recognizing the importance of welcoming diversity and equal opportunities. The atmosphere within a school should be positive, with this being reflected in the attitudes of the staff and pupils, all caring for and taking pride in their surroundings and in how the learning journey of each pupil takes
Discipline is very important in schools but again, there are strict legislations that need to be adhered to. There are laws regarding registration and keeping records about school attendance and absence. Laws need to be followed to ensure that there is equality and schools need to allow diversity and inclusion.
Therefore, A school should be a neutral place where they go to learn things that they will carry with them for the rest of their
The school board is attempting to handle the situation best at possible, by helping the distressed families of the students involved. The board of education released a statement of the promises they are making to the students and their very worried parents, which says that they plan on increasing security on the campus and donate to help every student involved. Even student Raymond Assaf, who driving behind the cars that day, couldn’t help to think about how he was only two cars away from death, “That could’ve been me. I could’ve been ...ahead, and been collided with.”
In every school there are set policies and procedures so that all people working within the school are aware and stick to the same rules. Consistency is imperative. All adults working in the school would be : teaching staff, support staff, lunchtime supervisors, kitchen staff, governors, after school staff and temporary staff. There are many policies in schools that children and staff should be aware of.
It is important to let people express their views and discuss disagreements; that’s what democracy is. Being able to express your views and opinions is what makes America different from other countries. So why wouldn’t we allow these same rights on a college campus? Wendy Kaminer says in her essay Progressive Ideas Have Killed Free Speech on Campus, “It’s not just rape that some women on campus fear: It’s the discussions of rape.” She then goes on to talk about a university that canceled a discussion about rape because students felt like it made an unsafe environment.

Throughout history, the United States of America has often been described as a “melting pot,” meaning a place where many different types of people blend together to form one, unified nation. If this description of the United States is accurate, it is crucial to ensure that all of these different individuals are able to live in harmony with one another. This is especially true at the collegiate level of education. In the last few decades, liberal arts colleges have made it their mission to increase diversity on their campuses. Diversity comes in several forms, particularly class-based and racial.
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the right of expression to citizens. Students are said to keep their Constitutional rights within the school environment, as set in place by the Tinker Standard. However, the rights that are given to students have continued to be controversial and many of these cases have ended up in the Supreme Court. The education system is supposed to help in guiding the students by correcting or disciplining their incorrect actions, but this can sometimes end up in punishing excessively, and this is proven in many cases where the Supreme Court ruled in the favor of the students and their right to their self-expression. Students are not protected by the First Amendment because school officials are
