They admit they all had to face pivotal moments before becoming leaders, risks and challenges included. However, they agree that the personal and professional rewards of developing an international outlook have been worthwhile to them. They also believe that, if nowadays they hold global leadership roles, it is because they have taken responsibility for their choices from the beginning. The three speakers also state that an effective leader should be aware of his or her limitations, while looking for counsel of others. Becoming a leader is an ongoing process throughout which mentorship and sponsorship programmes are a very efficient way to succeed.v In the presentation, the speakers argue that throughout their professional journeys they have been either guided by a mentor or sponsored. They agree that mentoring and sponsorship play a great role in a leadership career. Laughing Without an Accent provides its readers an engaging glimpse into the multicultural lifestyle of the author Firoozeh Dumas. Her superb ability to translate humor amongst different communities, speaks vastly to her cultural awareness. Dumas’ detailed chapters deliver ample illustrations of what the life of a global citizen can entail. In particular, I define a global citizen as someone who possesses characteristics that help them to actively engage with people of any culture.
All of my life, I have dreamed of becoming a leader. Always wanting not only what’s best for me, but also for other people. In a position of leadership, I will find success, while providing a work atmosphere conducive to victory. I will have the opportunity to make a difference, and my voice will finally be heard.

What is a leader?” John Quincy Adams once declared “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” If I never expressed my story to others. No one would know how much I have achieved in the past 17 years. I grew up in a Haitian-American household, with my mother, and my three younger siblings.
First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Another thing about leadership is its an art. People can’t just become a leader, it’s inside of them just waiting for an opportunity to reveal itself. “Educators, health professionals, and parents all agree that as society grows more complex, young people are in greater need than ever for grounding in the basic values that determine character”(Hirschmann 12). This shows that the higher ups in

In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.

Papathanasiou et al. (2014, p. 407) outline authentic leadership as the ability to influence the actions and behaviour of individuals to work together to achieve their goals. Additionally, Goffee and Jones (2005, p. 87) describe authentic leadership as a real thing, an attribute that uniquely defines great leaders. Furthermore, they highlight that authentic leaders are highly attuned to their environment and that whilst they retain their distinctiveness they understand how to strongly influence and win acceptance in strong cultures and how to utilise those cultures as a basis for radical change. President Kennedy also displayed attributes of an effective transformational leader in a time of crisis and sought to inspire and encourage the population to develop and achieve their greatest potential.
In other words, leadership demands the ability to modify plans and adapt new strategies based on conditions and circumstances. To be successful, a leader must be capable of fitting in and adapting to a plethora of different groups and situations while never losing vision of the objectives and purpose of their appointment. Martin Luther King was flexible. Once he said that: “When you are right you cannot be too radical; when you are wrong you cannot be too conservative.” All things considered, the future leaders should learn from his example because he created himself.
In fact, leadership is an art rather than a science. The process of learning leadership is a hand-on experience, which focuses on practice instead of concepts itself. This course provides me a chance to gain more insight about leadership and it helps me develop my new image of leadership. Meanwhile, I also use the theories in our textbook as a framework for self-assessment of my leadership skills and try to develop my own leadership style during the

Leaders are made, not born. The Great Man Theory suggests that people inherit qualities and traits that make them better suited for leadership. “To suggest that leaders do not enter the world with extraordinary endowment is to imply that people enter the world with equal abilities, with equal talents.” (Thomas Carlyle 1840) While it is true that there are certain characteristics that leaders are born with that predispose them to become leaders, the influence of these characteristics are often overexaggerated.
