Many people around the world are homeless and majority of them are homeless veterans that served in wars like the vietnam war. The age range for veterans are usually in their 50 and 60’s and the numbers are increasing rapidly. In 2016 january ,communities in america identified 39,471 homeless veterans during the point in time. Veterans homelessness should be because and should be honored because of what they do for our country and they are heroes.
Providing case management services can help the veterans overcome the barriers that stand between them and a secure stable life. Health and wellness services can benefit homeless veterans by providing health screenings, medication monitoring program, support groups and socialization skills training. Homeless veterans benefit from employment and training skills which include career counseling, training and education. Other varieties of supportive services in which a veteran may need food pantry, clothing, legal assistance and dental exam.
How are the people of Ancient Greece similar to the people of modern day? Modern day people actually have more in common with the ancient greeks than one would think. In the articles “ Psychiatrist Who Counsels Vets Wins Genius Grant” by Joseph Shapiro and “Back From War but Not Really Home” by Caroline Alexander, talks about veterans who have post traumatic stress disorder, and how the epic poems The Iliad and The Odyssey help treat them. The Epic poems expose the struggles of Modern day veterans by revealing what kind of trauma they experienced, yet it also helps them for proving how they are not the only ones to feel this way. Veterans connect with the poems, because they understand what war is like.
I have a few people in my family that are veterans. Their service means alot to me. I admire them for their for their bravery and loyalty to their country. They inspire me in many ways such as to be brave even if the situation requires only a small act of bravery, and to speak out against something I know is wrong. To me veterans need to be honored every day for their service.
On November 11 of every year, we have a day to celebrate our veterans. For many people, it is a day to honor our veterans in addition to thank them for what they done for our country. For me, it feels much more than just honoring them. There are three reasons why Veterans Day means more to me; my Grandpa, family history, and my birthday.
Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) have high rates of unemployment and mental health disorders. In addition, traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common injury among OIF/OEF veterans, often leading to cognitive impairments and post-concussive symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and difficulties with cognitive and functioning. TBI and comorbid psychiatric conditions such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) limit cognitive readiness for civilian employment and may lead to impaired job performance. These conditions all serve as potential barriers for OIF/OEF Veterans entering the workforce.
You keep walking and then look away as if there is nothing you can do, hoping that someone else will be able to help. It is time to give back and make a difference in the lives of Veterans. Leaving something different can be a scary experience. One of the hardest situations ever occurred to me is not doing what was expected of me. Always afraid to move against the tide, though I decided that was a valuable skill that I should leave.
A lot of America’s veterans are now having to live on the streets after coming home from combat. and a problem like this should not be occurring. There are close to 50,000 homeless veterans here in America. This is due to the lack of support networks for returning veterans and also the substandard pension veterans receive. There have been efforts to combat this problem but it is still a large problem all across America.
In America, we pride ourselves to be the best in everything we do. Such as our school systems, advance technological breakthroughs and helping people around the world. Yet people around the world knows us best for our military strength. As Americans, we have prided ourselves for taking care of our military members. We build memorials, have parades and holidays just for our troops.
As the ones that are protecting and did protect our country, everyone would contemplate that veterans would be treated considerably better than they are today. Although they are left in the streets without food or homes to live in, so they are cold and starving. In the United States of America, we do not provide our veterans with housing when they are discharged from our military. Even after they had fought and endangered their lives to save us and protect our country from other countries that are trying to harm us and our country. From fighting for our country some of the soldiers suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, consequently, most of the veterans do not get the assistance that is essential to resolve and or manage the
Veteran’s all over the United States are retiring, getting less and less of the benefits that they used to. My brother was going to enlist and asked some people whether or not he should. They said they weren't going to tell him not to enlist, but they did say that it's not as beneficial as it was in the past. You don’t get as many benefits when you come back, as you used to. This isn’t something that should be happening.
Currently I am volunteering as a worker at our local food pantry downtown. The pantry is called Hope Distribution and is part of the Catholic Charities program sponsored by the Archdiocese of the Catholic Church. I am volunteering here working the front desk keeping tracks on the clients that utilize our pantry. We issue intake forms for new clients and mark the frequency that a client in need comes to the pantry. Here, I also help guide them throughout the pantry assisting them with the items that they are allowed to make choices on.
What is life’s most extraordinary pleasure? For many, money, power, and/or fame come to mind, and the idea of helping others does not register. It seems for every person eager to help, there are millions ready to hurt or disregard those in need. Nevertheless, the world is not beyond salvation; there are numerous individuals willing to give their time and labor to transform the world into a better place for all. These devoted people are volunteers, and they believe life’s most extraordinary pleasure is the joy of helping others.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
