1. After reviewing the reading on NP reimbursement--what do you think are the three most important concepts an NP should be familiar with to maximize their value? Why--provide rationale and justification.
Overhead cost
According to Waxman (2013) overhead cost is defined as the price of doing business. This is important because the NP should be aware of the cost to run an efficient practice and also have it be a profitable venture.
Understanding Billing Codes
According to Waxman (2013) in order for the NP to play a greater role in healthcare, billing must be consistent. I believe that this is probably one of the most important thing an NP must be familiar with to maximize their value. Having the ability to understand, the need for support staff in order to decrease revenue or to increase revenue (Waxman, 2013).
2. Evaluate your organization 's mission statement (or a previous place of employment if your current organization does not have one) and determine how well it matches the current state of affairs. How well does it describe what your organization is and does? How is the organization doing in living its mission?
The mission statement for my current place of employment is “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. In recognition of this commitment, we will strive to deliver high quality, cost-effective healthcare in the communities we serve.” Within the facility mission statement there are also 4 value statements that sets the foundation for the mission statement. These 4 value statements are:
1. We recognize and affirm the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual.
2. We treat all those we serve with compassion and kindness.
3. We act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our
