Having an effective leader at the helm of a group of people is an important part of being successful. The best leaders are inspirational, patient, confident, open-minded, decisive, personable, positive, and a smattering of other great qualities. Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi’s profound quote regarding leaders still sticks out to me “Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” A true leader is gritty and persistent enough to find what really motivates people to become the most successful they can be.

In this particular game, we started out in a relaxed man to man defense- not playing with any intensity and were losing by a substantial margin. Coach called a timeout, we huddled in and he got out his whiteboard and drew up a tight press defense. Also, he matched our most athletic player on their ball handler. The timeout concluded and we got right into our press defense which forced a quick turnover and layup. This continued through the rest of the game and we clawed our way back into the game and won. This demonstration of leadership is a great example of what leaders do- adjust their plan to make everyone a part of their team successful. Having an effective leader absolutely makes a difference in a team of people's success. As Daymond John owner of Shark Branding and FUBU says “The truth is, leaders need to keep an open mind while being flexible, and adjust if necessary. Being a leader involves many different characteristics. A leader must set the example for all others in the group, because if they are to show up late to practice, there isn’t a reason that any of the other members should not do the same. A leader must take risks for the benefit of the group as well as make sacrifices for it. Becoming the leader of the group requires for them to be the most dedicated. They must work harder and not be afraid to lead the group.
All of our great leaders had one thing in common. Leadership. All of our great leaders have a different approach. Leaders have to have great attitude, they have to know what they want, and they have to always be accepting of the truth. Being a leader doesn’t mean being a President or a Vice President, people like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass made a huge impact on the abolitionist movement, and they were fugitive slaves!
To describe a good leader takes more than a few words. To truly describe what a good leader is, it takes understanding and empathy, and the ability to imagine becoming dependent on someone else’s orders to stay alive. It takes a lot to be a good leader, and thought the term is seemingly vague, much is implied in those two simple words. The person must be strong and smart, but also humble and good at listening. They should be brave, but not so brave as to be blinded by their pride and make foolish decisions based on curiosity.

Being a great leader is not dependent on what you have accomplished yourself, it is shown by how you have impacted others' lives. I have come through a never-ending process of education, self-study, and social interactions to become a true leader figure. Being academically successful has been a big priority of mine. I have proved my academic dedication through my 4.0 GPA which is the first step to complete to grow as a bigger leader in the National Honors Society. My whole life, I have challenged myself by taking more advanced classes such as AP courses because I thought being intelligent is one of the keys to helping me become a bigger leader.
Name one person from your life (work or personal, past or present) that you view as a great leader. Why? Answer: My leader and most influential person in my life is my teacher James Perkins who taught me in school in the past. Good leaders communicate effectively and confront problems head-on, avoiding passive-aggressive behaviors. Additionally, a leader should always try to make sure everyone’s voice gets heard. This way the group feels important and like their opinions matter. Leaders also make decisions that best fit the group instead of choosing actions to best fit their own wants and needs. An example of this would be trying to maximize everyone’s happiness, even if their personal and professional interests don't align.

At the start of the 4th quarter the game was tied at 56, we bring the ball down the court and saw the defense in a 2-3 zone I knew if I passed the ball to the corners or in the post they were going to trap, I dribbled up to the 3pt line and faked a pass to Tez, the defense started shifting to the left thinking I passed the ball and I shot the 3 ball and listened as it ripped through the net and listened to the crowd get hype. With 1 minute left in the 4th quarter the game is tied at 68 and the orange team has the ball, dribbling the ball trying to waste some time, the point guard starts to dribble between his legs and tries to hit me with an in and out move but he tripped over his shoe and lost the ball, I sprinted to the loose and hustled down the court for the easy layup with 10 seconds left in the quarter. As my team running to get back on defense the orange team calls a time
There is 1 minute left to play and we have the ball in hand. I quickly move out of my zone and the coach is really confused because I don’t shoot from the 3 point line. That was just an underestimate of where I was able to shoot out. My teammate hands me the ball and I have 30 seconds left to shoot. I stall for about 10 seconds then I stop and shoot.
To be a successful leader I also agree that one needs to have certain characteristic and skills. A leader needs to be able to simple lead, as you have stated. They need to direct and guide people to fulfill shared goals. Communication is also another huge skill. A leader needs to be able to clearly communicate, build relationships, motivate others, inspire others, and be a role model to create a positive work environment and culture that will accept change and innovation in the company.
One of the most important characteristics of a good leader is that they must be actually prepared to lead under any circumstance. This sounds like something that should go without saying, but it is surprising just how many people who are in a leadership role are not prepared to take an active role in leading their team. A good leader does not sit back and observe what is going
Great leaders are genuine and authentic: These leaders know who they are and they are not afraid to let others see their core values, their strengths, and their weaknesses. They are transparent and let everyone know in a way that is seen as “real” and genuine. 4.
