First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
1. Introduction Individuals with leadership qualities are everywhere, if you can identify them. From within the family household, the school your children attend, to the more obvious; the workplace and political environments. However, what makes an individual a leader and what makes that leader an effective one? Can anyone be a leader?
Being a leader involves many different characteristics. A leader must set the example for all others in the group, because if they are to show up late to practice, there isn’t a reason that any of the other members should not do the same. A leader must take risks for the benefit of the group as well as make sacrifices for it. Becoming the leader of the group requires for them to be the most dedicated. They must work harder and not be afraid to lead the group.
Since I was a little kid all I’ve done is play basketball. Every season for the past 10 years I’ve always been ready to play. When I was little I started out playing in rec leagues. I played in those all the way up to the 7th grade. When started middle school I wanted to try out for the team. Usually in rec you just signed up and paid and you got to play, but now I actually had to be good enough to try out and make the team. I tried out and did my best. I got cut. I was super upset I didn’t make the team. I played rec again that year and kept practicing until next year's tryouts. Then when 8th grade year started I tried out again. I got cut. Again. So again I played rec basketball.

All of our great leaders had one thing in common. Leadership. All of our great leaders have a different approach. Leaders have to have great attitude, they have to know what they want, and they have to always be accepting of the truth. Being a leader doesn’t mean being a President or a Vice President, people like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass made a huge impact on the abolitionist movement, and they were fugitive slaves!
Great leaders are genuine and authentic: These leaders know who they are and they are not afraid to let others see their core values, their strengths, and their weaknesses. They are transparent and let everyone know in a way that is seen as “real” and genuine. 4. Effective leaders have a professional presence: Great leaders have a way of being “in the moment”, both in a group setting (on stage) and in individual interactions. They pay attention, listen, ask great questions, and make everyone feel like there are being heard and valued.
A leader is someone who takes initiative and leads the group. A true leader doesn’t try to lead, they just do. A leader is effective in whatever they might be doing. Leaders have a significant role in the community; without our great pool of leaders, from all corners of our lives, our country would most likely be headed into a downhill spiral.
Leadership is something I take part in daily. Since I am senior at my school, younger students tend to look up to me as a role model. I play three sports in which I show leadership in and teach others leadership as well. The sport I represent leadership best in, is basketball. I lead the team huddles, say positive things to keep my teammates under control, and I show a player a drill or play if they don't understand it.
Coaching has many different fields that goes along with the job. For instance, there is baseball, softball, tennis, track, cross country, basketball, and football. All these different types of sports require coaches. Some of these fields of coaching require more practice, time, and patience than others. The most time consuming sport would have to be football, this would be a good job for people who have allot of free time.
Staying determined and never giving up is key to being a great leader, once you have done everything to help somebody as a leader then it is up to them but never give in before the job is
Name one person from your life (work or personal, past or present) that you view as a great leader. Why? Answer: My leader and most influential person in my life is my teacher James Perkins who taught me in school in the past. I believe that Sir Perkins is the one in my life, who had all the best leadership styles and competencies and he is no doubt a great leader. I can’t even name the characteristics, advice, and knowledge about leadership I learned from him.
To be a successful leader I also agree that one needs to have certain characteristic and skills. A leader needs to be able to simple lead, as you have stated. They need to direct and guide people to fulfill shared goals. Communication is also another huge skill. A leader needs to be able to clearly communicate, build relationships, motivate others, inspire others, and be a role model to create a positive work environment and culture that will accept change and innovation in the company.
