Personal Narrative: The Work Of A Hurricane

September, 1938 off the coast of Africa a storm was brewing and was heading towards the coast of Florida.

Tornadoes can reach up to 300 miles per hour and the damage paths can be an excess of 1 mile wide. Also, they can reach an amazing length of 50 miles long (Ready.gov, 2012)! The second deadliest tornado recorded in the United States is called the Natchez Tornado. It hit Natchez, Mississippi and traveled along the Mississippi River; creating destruction to the river and Vidalia, Louisiana. This devastation occurred on May 7, 1840 (Hall, 2014). Tornadoes create large amounts of damage and are deadly to people if they are not prepared properly.

Galveston Hurricane: September 8, 1900. On September 8, a Category 4 hurricane ripped through Galveston, killing an estimated amount 6,000 to 8,000 people. A 15-foot storm flooded the city, which was then situated at less than 9 feet above sea level, and numerous homes and buildings were destroyed.

Everything had been quiet and painfully loud at the same time. I remember standing from afar, trying to get my last gaze at my home. It was the eighth of August in 1932, the day my family 's home was getting torn down.

What just happened!?! It was a tornado. Tornadoes and hurricanes have many differences and similarities. Tornadoes and hurricanes cause a ton of damage. The most disastrous hurricane was hurricane Catrina. Tornadoes and hurricanes cause horrific impact, the size of them, and they both indeed have certain locations.

Catastrophes affect humanity all the time but two of the most memorable in history are Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Harvey. Hurricanes are first seen from the satellite. This means that the hurricanes are spotted right away, it gets predicted where its going to impact first and how strong it can be when it hits the ground. These hurricanes are extremely dangerous because of its high-speed winds it comes with and the amount of rain produced by them, this makes it worst because they can last for days. The two most recent Hurricanes Harvey and Katrina impacted differently, they both had fatalities, damages and occurred different years.

Hurricane Juan struck Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2003 creating the most damage in the history of Nova Scotia and killing 8 people and costing about $30 900 000 in damage. In order to prevent as much damage you first need to have a brief understanding of what causes hurricanes and how they work. After you know that you 're able to think of ways to be able to prevent damage and the lose of life. Even thought you can be the most prepared person ever and just waiting for a hurricane to come because you know you 're as ready as ever, most people probably won 't be just sitting and waiting for one to come so what meteorologists do is predict when another is likely to strike.

Hurricanes can be powerful storms that form over ocean water in the tropics. Hurricane Sandy occurred in 2012 along the east coast along the United States. Hurricanes cause wide havoc to many coastal cities and inland cities and are very dangerous.

Irma was a category 5 hurricane. It hit Florida, debris left lying around everywhere. At least 36 people were reported dead, and over six million people were left without power. The flooding has makes walking the streets dangerous as the muddy water can hide sharp objects along with holes. The (FEMA) Federal Emergency Management Agency estimated that 25% of homes within the Florida keys are completely destroyed, and 65% have had major damage. In preparation for the oncoming hurricane, the government created online websites with plans of what preparations should be made by people who were being evacuated or wanted to stay put. These plans include basic things such as a large supply of both food and water and having all important documents and

Suddenly there’s moaning and snarling coming from outside look and there’s a giant horde of zombies. Survivors need to know what to do? People need to know what zombies are. Hurricanes cause severe flooding from their high wind speeds. From our hurricane sandy experience, we can see that hurricanes tear down houses and buildings that are very precious to us. They can take down things that are not sheltered and things that are sheltered. They also flood places because of the rainfall that they cause. However, hurricanes can also help us by replenishing inland plant life, bringing rainfall to areas that need it, and provide a global heat balance. Overall, hurricanes have changed lives.

In recent years, Hurricane Katrina and Matthew have been very catastrophic. Katrina is considered to be the most destructive hurricane of all time. This hurricane deeply affected the city of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Katrina formed from remnants of a previous storm that hit the Bahamas in 2005. As conditions became favorable, it started barrelling toward the Gulf Coast. It made landfall at Buras-Triumph, Louisiana as a category 3 hurricane. The winds of Katrina were 200 kilometers per hour and its storm surge reached 8 meters above sea level. This damaging storm killed 2,000 people and caused 108 billion dollars in damage. After Katrina, many conclusions regarding hurricane intensity were evaluated. The storm surge of Katrina emphasized the ineffectiveness of the hurricane category system to adequately convey hazards and suggested that floods cause more damage than winds (Sumner). Although Hurricane Matthew was nothing like Katrina, the storm still caused many deaths and millions of dollars in damage. Hurricane Matthew formed from a tropical wave in the Lesser Antilles in 2016 and cut through the southeastern region of the United States. Hurricanes appear and throw our world into chaos; over the years, hurricanes have caused extreme destruction all over the globe. In September, Hurricane Irma struck and removed everything in its path. Although the amount of destruction caused was devastating, precautions were taken to help save lives and avoid as much damage as possible. Hurricane Irma escalated quickly, yet humans still remain unsure on how to stop these storms from occurring.

In these day, hurricane is the one of the most terrifying disaster that occur on many countries in this world, it can cause damage and harmful to people. Hurricane is a huge storm that form above the ocean then move to the land and we call it “hurricane” when the wind speeds reach up to 74 mph. However, these storm are call in different names depends on the location that they occur. For example, we call it “typhoon” in Pacific Ocean, “cyclone” in Indian Ocean, etc. In these essay, we will point on the two-main cause and two-main negative effect of the hurricane and some idea of the basic preparation.

As I was awakened from a deep sleep, my aunt was yelling “get all your stuff we have to leave.” I didn’t fully understand what was going on by the way I was awakened. It was five o’clock in the morning when I heard my cousin on the other end of the phone saying “we have to leave New Orleans now, the hurricane is going to hit and we will not be safe here.” I never thought I would have to pack up and leave my home because of a natural disaster. As I gather the things that would fit in the small purple suitcase I was still in disbelief of what was going to take place. One by one we loaded up her red Pontiac and headed for the Texas border with my cousin following in the car behind us.
