Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Ameliya Gerlt, an International Baccalaureate Career Path student from North Kansas City High School. Today, I would like to emphasize the importance of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and why it is critical to adjust the college credit rules for IB exams in Missouri.
The IB program is a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum recognized as one of the most prestigious high school programs globally. Its purpose is to prepare students for success in higher education and to develop the critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills essential for today's globalized world.

The following states have passed similar bills: Michigan, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
This discrepancy puts Missouri students at a disadvantage when applying for college and paying for higher education. Students who earn a 4 on their IB exams in Missouri are not eligible for college credit, which means they may have to retake courses they have already mastered or pay more money to take college-level courses, encouraging them to leave the state for higher education.
It is crucial for Missouri to change this policy and align with the rest of the country to provide equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their state of residence.
