One day, one child, one gun, one school. Now, as saddening as it is to admit, we live in a world where school shootings are a part of everyday life, and there is nothing being done to stop them. As most can recognize, most of the media is more focus on what the President is going to say after the shootings happen, rather than focusing on what we as a nation are going to do to stop these tragic events. There have been a few ideas when it comes to solving this issue, and truthfully, most of these ideas will fall flat on their faces; meanwhile, arming teachers seems to be a possible solution. Arming teachers will deter shooters, secure students fears from outside threats, and in the worst case scenario can stop a school shooter before they can commit mass murder.
If not, the gun would still be the responsibility of the original owner if it was later used in a crime. These stricter measures would allow for gun ownership to be tracked and monitored after purchase. Many people think there should be stricter gun laws put in place to make students and other perpetrators think twice about bringing a gun to school. “I believe in a few simple gun laws. I think we have more than enough on the books,” said Mark Mattioli, whose son James, 6, was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Guns can either solve the problem or make it worse. Many colleges shooting happens when the student is the shooter. If more college allows this law into school its basically making the shooter mission easier. They are putting innocent people in danger. So many factors play a part in this law.
Gun Violence and Mental Health: Teachers and Staff Should Not Carry Guns in Schools When people started shooting students and staff at schools nobody knew what to do, but they knew that a change needed to be made. With all of the tragedies that keep happening in school campuses there is a debate on what that changes should be. Some say that teachers and staff should have guns in school premises to protect students from an intruder and prevent another horrible incident like the Columbine, Sandy Hook, and many others. Others say that teachers packing heat is a bad idea and that we should be looking at mental health a little closer.
Even the prosecuting attorney for his case stated, “I don’t doubt for a second, never have doubted, that had he not been caught, Eric Smith would have killed again,” (When Children Kill By: Diane Kratz Feb 11, 2013 Aside) According to Phil Chalmers, a teen violence and youth culture expert, there are usually specific reasons why teens kill. They include being bullied at school, depression, lack of guidance or discipline and even mental illness are just to name a few. (Inside The Mind Of a Teen Killer; 2009 Nelson, Phil Chalmers). Eric Smith appeared to have many of those
There have been many innocents of where demonic people choose to walk into a school full of loving people and just shoot them. Recently there was a massive shooting in Florida, resulting in 17 people dead. Students, teachers and family members that witnessed this tragic situation happen or just the parents who will not be able to hug their children(s) bye before school in the morning spoke out to this country and to the President that they have had enough, and they want something done now. Many people argue that they should ban guns just like other countries have to prevent any shootings of any kind, but President Trump has an idea stated in “Trump suggests arming teachers as a solution to increase school safety” by Dan Mercia. That teacher should carry guns on them for the school’s safety, but states that there is already plenty of teachers who are licensed to carry firearms and we should have them raise their hands to volunteer for the training.
This is why office need to train so that mistakes like this will never happen again. Officers should also know when they received enough evidence to arrest someone for the crime the individual have committed. In the summer or 2016 a video flooded the social media and the television, showing Charles Kinsey being shot in the leg while trying to help 23-year-old patient who ran away from his group home. Charles Kinsey was shot in his leg while lying on his back with his hands in the air, reports say when Charles asked the office why he shot him the office said he do not know
“Every Teacher in America Should Have a Gun” by Steve Siebold delivers the message about why teachers should be armed with guns. Primarily he thinks that shooters will be less motivated to try to attack a school that is able to defend itself against the gunman. He also goes on to say that “Every second counts in a school shooting. Calling 911 and waiting for police to arrive isn’t good enough.” He gives us the idea that we need to take action against these shooters and potentially end school shootings once and for all.
28th Amendment: Gun control Introduction:It is necessary to know the importance of gun control because there are too many shootings just because of a terrorist who use guns to threaten civilians. Therefore this amendment will help end all the mass shooting and death cost by guns that we are facing nowadays in America. Why this Amendment is Needed Today: This amendment is needed because there are too much mass shooting and people who are being killed because of guns.
A simple way to stop school shootings in our district would be by eliminating all the factors that form a school shooter. Most school shooter suffered from bullying or had some sort of mental illness. In order to minimize the chance of a kid becoming a school shooter, we need to increase awareness.
School shootings are extremely uncommon. A recent U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study found that only one percent of childhood homicides, a majority of which involve guns, occur in schools(Russo,1). If teachers do become armed, should there be selected teachers? Some teachers may not want to be armed and have the extra responsibility. Teachers should not be armed while at school.
The carnage at Columbine alarmed hundreds of schools across the nation and influenced schools safety practices greatly. In this present era, school shootings appear to be becoming normality in America. After the shooting, schools both locally and internationally have significantly increased their security procedures. There are many different upgrades that schools have implemented to help prevent further tragedies; metal detectors are used to detect weaponry on-hand as well as security cameras on site all around the building – inside and out. These methods also include dress codes, security/police officials and ID room cards, the latter being implemented on my campus.
