Ultimately, the failure of the Delta to diversify has caused people to find themselves trapped in a never-ending turmoil between poor education and indigence. Poverty and education share a relationship with one another and in order to fix the problems associated with poverty the problems with education must first be addressed. Another way that economical factors play a role in education is the cost of college. Due to the high expenses that come with college, many families cannot afford to send their children to universities. This means students have to apply for loans, which can take years to pay off.
I define intersectionality as having different life experiences and multiple identities that intersect. For example, the EOP program here on campus helps students who are first generation college students. They often have specific needs and obstacles. These students are sometimes below the poverty line. These two identities intersect because having family members who have never been to college often results in making less money which limits the chances of their children going to school.
It is important to understand these social themes because they occur in every society and it is up to the society and the individual to try and make a change. Overall, poverty class barriers show up everywhere. The Gallagher family in “Shameless” is a good example of this because they are very poor and most of the siblings end up dropping out of high school or not amounting to much within their lives. They are never truly able to get away from having this status, and it is truly sad because they represent actual families in the real world struggling with this everyday. Again, this sustains an idea that people do not care for the safety of those in the pleeblands, thus when attending school in an unsafe environment, achieving success is more difficult. Jimmy does get a view of both sides, at home he sees the luxury life people in the compounds live, but as he attends school he sees how people live in the pleeblands. Jimmy is the only one who does not cheat at his school. The teachers do not really care though.
Most people ask this question when starting to apply for college: Why should a 2.5 GPA athlete pay nothing for classes he probably will not even going to attend, while a 4.0 GPA full-time student has to work two jobs on top of all their classes to pay for their tuition and housing? This question has so many things untrue with this statement. This is a stereotype. The truth is that public and private schools give more money away for academic scholarships and aid than the athletics. While sports are a big part of the school’s background, the athletics department does not receive much money for that sport.

I believe students from low-income communities face a huge challenge that results from inequalities in wealth distribution. Poor communities lack of distribution of resources that mainly benefit kids, women and the ederly. It is sad to see that to the world our country is presented at "the land of the opportunities," but in reality, there is little chance for poor people to enjoy of those "scarce opportunities." There are many ways in which the academic potential of a student living in these communities can be affected. For instance, a high school student who was exposed to math textbooks in his childhood because his or her community lacks of government resources, may face many difficulties and low performance in this subject.
Students don’t take advantage of the opportunities they are provided in high school, like dual-enrollment, that could save them time and money in college. Every year students are given the opportunity to do dual enrollment which would save them hundreds to thousands in college, but most miss their chance and are required to take remedial classes in college. According to statistics, “Complete College America reports that almost 50% of the students entering 2-year colleges are required to take remedial classes. ( Rath Par.15)”. To further explain, due to students not taking advantages in high school are required to take remedial classes they most-likely took in high school and pay around triple the amount.
A part-time job will not amount to the cost of school and living. Although costs are universally high, some of the cost may rely upon the location of the student in relation to the location of the school. Although there are no solutions to the financial challenges of a college student, there are ways to cope with the issue. The best ways to limit financial stress are buying used textbooks, eating at home, applying for scholarships, applying for financial aid, and making a weekly budget plan. Scholarships and financial aid are given to people who qualify; however, these aids do not pose solutions to the problem.

Studies concluded, that students who live in poverty will display impatience, inappropriate emotional responses, and unable to have empathy for peers misfortunes. Trying to empathize for these students is key. "A teacher cannot change the students bank account p, but you can change what is in their emotional account"(Jenson 23). The students in my school are not free from oppression because the community they live in tells them that they do not need a high school diploma to be successful and that college is definitely out of reach. This research seeks to improve attendance among students at Second Start Alternative High School. Many students are not receiving academic credit due to their lack of attendance. The target problem is defined as frequent absenteeism. Students who are not accomplishing an attendance rate of eighty-five percent can be determined as frequently absent.
