Book Wars: The Future of Reading This 21st century, an extensive range of wide technological advancements had been reached, along with numerous changes that had transpired from the simple day-to-day core activities up to those complex tasks. One example of changes brought about by advance modern technology is the medium of learning and reading in our society. Even though reading is still considered by many as one of their favorite leisure activity, several differences can be noticed in the way of traditional reading before and on the way of modern reading now. Reading e-books for a long period of time can cause visual fatigue. Moreover, prolonged use of any electronic gadget can have damaging effects on one 's eyes. A recent study conducted by Swedish researchers found that digital reading required higher mental effort compared to reading on paper. In addition, a Harvard study conducted last 2014 showed that using tablets with LED screens at night can result in a distorted sleep pattern.

In terms of availability, despite the fact that e-books let one store countless books online, it only has limited availability since numerous printed books do not offer an e-Book version. Most importantly, low-battery life can interrupt one 's reading of e-Books. Printed books, on the other hand, offers continuous reading since it does not require a chargeable battery for power.

Third, even though reading is faster when using e-Books, less valuable information is retained by the reader. On the contrary, readers retain more information when reading a printed book. This is because besides the visuals, the tactile feeling of reading a printed book gives a positive feedback to the reader; thus, making him/her absorbed more information.
