Models for Progress
Widespread methods of acquiring knowledge from this world have been implemented by humans. Humans, in their very nature, are not satisfied with enough; they seek to know more for the advancement of their species. Animal testing, one of the methods they use, has been able to help in the innovative press of humans for the future of its species. From the word itself “animal testing”, animals are subjected to be tested or to be examined for experimental purposes. Its sole purpose is to control the variables of a field of study to attain understanding of that certain biological topic. The process starts from pure research typically conducted in medical schools, universities and other facilities that implement animal testing

Animals such as chimpanzees, mice, rats, and rabbits which are also classified as nonhuman primates are the typically used animals in experiments. There are various types of tests that have been successfully performed around the world such as Eye Irritancy, Acute Toxicity, Pharmacokinetics/ Toxicokinetics and Metabolism. Although it might seem illegal, animal testing is still legal in 80% of countries. And in China, it is actually a legal requirement. For some people, animal testing has been a very cruel thing that brought about millions of deaths for animals. But on the other side, people can’t deny the fact that it has been such a great step up for the human beings. Animal testing linked to the cure of what was once incurable, and gave light to wisdom of what was …show more content…
But on the same way, although animals are not straightly identical to humans, people can’t deny the fact that animal testing opened up to new possibilities and solutions that caused advancement to people’s lives. By further and continuous study about animals, through testing and experimenting, it added up to the scientific knowledge by means of basic biological research. It helps us understand how living things work, and apply it for the good of both humans and animals. Moreover, it also provides protection for the people. Testing on animals ensures that the environment and the people are safe from the harmful effects of specific chemicals. This also bridged to new medicines and treatments for some diseases like penicillin which treats bacterial infections, tail of the lizard medicine for asthma, and blood transfusion medicine that healed cancer and
Every year several million animals die due to animal testing in for medical, psychological, and products research. Moreover, animal testing is something that shouldn’t be continued and for it is completely wrong and cruel. Animal testing started in the late 300’s BC. Aristotle and Erasistratus performed many experiments that involved living animals. Similarly, Galen, a greek physician, conducted animals research to explore the field of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
An animal, specially mouses and rabbits, are exposed to the test substance, either being forced to eat it, breathe it, have it rubbed on their skin, or have it injected. The test substance is often a household chemical, an industrial chemical, such as: pesticide, a food addictive, a cosmetic ingredient, or a pharmaceutical product. After that step is done, animals are observed for toxic reactions such as: vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, respiratory distress, appetite or weight loss, rashes and allergic reactions, skin and eye irritation, and many other harmful effects. After the scientists collect all the needed information the animal is then killed to end the experiment, worse still, their internal organs are often examined for harmful effects- depending on the type of tests, the experiment may last for a few hours or may last up to several days or even months. Frankly, animal testing is unethical on many levels.
About 26 million animals are used for testing every year in the United States. Some people say that animal testing has contributed too many lifesaving cures, whereas others believe would believe animal testing is cruel. Animal testing is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something, such as medical treatments, to determine the toxicity of medications, check the safety of products destined for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and health care uses. Which can be harmful towards the animals and beneficial to humans. Animal testing has contributed too many life-saving cures and treatments.
The practice of animal testing has led to the advancements in treating people with various diseases and finding new treatments for terminally ill
As technology increases and advances, medical science advances as well. With every new finding, progress is being made and life improved. While new technologies have aided in advancement greatly, there is one form of discovery and testing that has time and time again been proven to be effective: animal testing. Using animals for medical research has been extremely controversial, and some groups are protesting in order to outlaw this method of gathering beneficial information. What these protesters may not realize, though, is that the use of animals in medical and scientific experiments has saved a multitude of lives over the decades and has improved our everyday health.
This is what the animals have to deal with when being tested on. The animals also have had injuries caused by animal testing and most of them die in the process so the scientists have to get new animals to test on. This cycle goes on and on. Yeah, you could say that in the last 100 years or so, many medical breakthroughs have happened because of animal testing. Well, the reason for that was because of the animals.
Abstract Animal testing the experiments performed on animals that are used to test the effectiveness and safety of a wide range of things, from medication to cosmetics. They are also used to understand how the human body works. Animal testing is one of the major controversial issues, but animal testing has dramatically contributed to science. First, some people think that animal testing should not be used for testing medical techniques and drugs. However, medical research involving animal testing improved the health of human beings.
Animals in Research and Testing According to PETA, the animals who are in research and testing “shake and cower in fear whenever someone walks past their cages and their blood pressure spikes drastically. After enduring lives of pain, loneliness and terror, almost all of them will be killed,” (“Animal Testing 101”). Animal-testing is the use of non-human animals in research and development projects, especially for purposes of determining the safety of substances, such as foods, beauty products, and/or drugs. Although animal research plays a crucial role in experiments focused on disease treatments and preventions, it is cruel, inhumane, and should be stopped. This is an act that should be banned and prohibited in all states and countries
Animal testing is a procedure that is performed on living animals for research. The purpose of this research is to is to look at the different diseases and try to find different drugs/medicine that will work to cure/treat a disease. Instead of having, consenting humans agree to help find a treatment, they will use animals. With the animals they will test things that will benefit human health. Typical species that are selected are reptiles, rodents (mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits,) and other animals—fish, cats, dogs, mini-pigs, monkeys, chimpanzees, etc.
Animals are experimented for a reason. They have provided many scientists to undergo research in order find new drugs and treatments. This has been the only preferable option that many scientists have chosen over the last century. Throughout these years, animal testing has played a critical part in almost every medical research. Moreover, medical research involving animals has drastically improved the human health.
The use of animals for scientific experiments that benefit soley humans is cruel and sadistic. An animals life are not for our personal use of experimenting and torturing species in order for us to advance in science. There is little to no laws or regulation to conducting animal testing and the number of testing an it is unfortunately rising in other countries instead of declining. The United States is one of the top 10 countries that conduct experiments on animals (“Cruelty to Animals in Laboratories”). Even though many state that animal testing is the only way t safely trial medical experiments, over the years new alternatives and examination has been done that can bring an end to animal testing all together.
In spite of that, some people believe that animal testing is not essential and it should be banned because animals are different from humans physically. In addition, they believe that animal tests are a waste of time and money and there are lower cost alternative methods and more effective. Our purpose of this essay is to prove that animal testing is important and has a lot of benefits and advantages for humanity. Using animals in medical and scientific experiments is necessary, because it finds many cures and treatments, animals bodies are almost similar to the human bodies, also it benefits the animals themselves from diseases.
It is true that animal testing requires a lot of investment. Not only that money is spent on advanced technologies, it is also spent to pay for scientists’ expertise on this particular field. In order for the scientists to do their research, they need suitable equipment and substances. Every year, the National institutes of Health finances between $12 billion to $14.5 billion on animal testing as indicated in a study done by the government (Bastach, 2013). Besides, scientists need to consider the fact that animals need to be sheltered, fed and cared for to keep them alive.
In recent years, it is reported that more than 100 million animals die from various of animal testing each year (2004), and about 70% of the animals used are mice and rats. Viewing these shocking data, I believe that many can see the cruelty of animal testing. Accurately speaking, the phrase “animal testing” is any scientific experiment or test for some research purposes in which an animal is forced to undergo something that will cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm (2017). Such animal testing dates to the mid-19th century when the experimental medical science appeared. Nowadays, with the rapidly development and in-depth study of the medical science and pathology, it shows that there are more and more needs to carry out animal
Animal testing is a phrase that most people have heard but are perhaps still unsure of exactly what it involve. Whether it is called animal testing, experimentation or research, it should be defined as all testing methods on animals including, medical exploration, cosmetics, toxicology trialing, and psychological examination involving animal subjects. It is used to assess the safety and effectiveness of medications and beauty products as well as understanding how the human physiology works. While supporters believe it is necessary practice, those against animal testing believe that it involves torture and suffering to animals. Medical research is the hardest case of proposition in the debate whether animal testing should be banned or not, since it has previously yielded substantial benefits for humanity.
