Introduction
My group and I chose do investigate whether or not Rietvlei Zoo Farm has a negative impact on the surrounding environment and chose to examine how they manage the waste in the farm itself by looking at the amount of litter on the premises, specifically in the parking area, near the restaurant and hall and in the picnic area. We also conducted a questionnaire at Rietvlei Zoo Farm to get both the views of the visitors and employees.
Hypothesis
Rietvlei Zoo Farm has a negative impact on the surrounding environment based on the amount of litter found.
Aim
To investigate whether or not Rietvlei Zoo Farm has a negative impact on the surrounding environment based on the amount of litter found.
Apparatus
3 plastic bags of the same size
Forest Acres is a community located in Richland County of Columbia, South Carolina. It is a community that was incorporated in the year 1935 near the waters of Dent’s Pond, now known as Forest Lake, due to John Hughes Cooper and James Henry Hammond both having real estate interests in the area. After Cooper purchased Dent’s Pond (Forest Lake) and 1,700 acres of land, Hammond purchased 67 acres from Cooper on Quinine Hill; developing it into a suburban area for local businessmen who worked in the downtown area. In order for Cooper and Hammond to name this location, a petition was signed by residents; voting on whether to name the area Forest Acres or Quinine Hill. As a result, the name Forest Acres won majority votes; making it the official
Arguing over the use of plastic bags has stirred large debates over their effects on the ecosystem. In Adam B. Summer’s article, he argues that plastic bags do not present vast amounts environmental issues as some people believe. Thus, he provides his argument over the debate of plastic bags throughout his article. Summer utilizes the ethos, logos, and the pathos appeal in numerous aspects of his argument. Because of his creative usage of these appeals, Summer presents his readers with an extremely well-written argument.
Animal waste runoffs or feedlots are farms that specialize in cattle or hogs. These animals are stayed in a very small area of land and they are raised on hormones and grains that make them big and fat for slaughter. Feedlots help provide a lot of protein in America but feedlots contain a lot of the animals poop and other bad substances that can pollute the air and the water with their runoff. Pros of having feedlots is that they produce meat that satisfies U.S. consumers, they’re efficient, and cheap. Cons of having feedlots is that manure contains nitrogen and phosphorus; if not managed properly, they can pollute the nearby lakes, streams, rivers, or oceans, and antibiotic use increases genetic resistance to bacteria in the human body.
Factory farmed animals have no federal legal protection from horrifying abuses that would otherwise be illegal if they were practiced on dogs or cats: neglect, mutilations, crippling, transport through all weather extremes, and inhumane slaughter. Nevertheless, farmed animals are no less sensitive or capable of feeling pain than dogs or cats, which we cherish as companions. Animals, like humans, are healthiest when they eat certain foods; “Cows, have stomachs that are designed to digest grass. Pigs can digest grass, corn, grains, soy and other plants. Chickens and turkeys can eat plants as well as bugs and worms found on the pasture.”
Animals being effected by trash, such as plastic, ending up in the ocean, the forest, and neighborhood parks are being quickly wiped
Towards the middle of the documentary they give you very good facts such as why it's bad to litter in the river as well as why the chicken pollution is bad for you. Many families where affected by the pollution. " A number of families have sued poultry companies to hold them liable for the illnesses suffered by their children"(45:32). Littering in the river is bad for the environment and people, so is the chicken pollution that is spread around the land close to the school and homes. The chicken pollution that is spread around the land possesses disease concerns.
1) It has been a quite interesting reading, something I am not used to reading, but at the same time it has been cool and has made me interested in the events at that time of communism in Russia. Sometimes I have trouble understanding certain sentences or words but I use a dictionary to understand what the text seeks to narrate. Moreover, having animals as the main characters and a farm as the main setting helped me to understand more the story 2) Yes, many times people want to make changes favorable to one group of people, especially when we have witnessed injustices or unpleasant events, we seek to fight for change, however, it is sad to see that just as we can achieve change, we ourselves can act with injustice for other groups as well.
George Orwell’s writing of Animal Farm sounds like a meaningless book about animals ruling on their own, yet it has a more significant meaning. Josip Broz Tito’s dictatorship connects almost entirely to the dictatorship of Napoleon in the book. Orwell shows the reality of Animal Farm by how dictators who do not agree with someone, will try to get rid of them. Tito, who is popularly known as Marshall Tito, brought Yugoslavia together.
Thesis Statement: Dictators Create decisions for what can be said and done. The animals in the novel Animal Farm had created a set of commandments that all the animals had to follow, then one day the group Napoleon and the other pigs broke the fourth commandment by sleeping in beds, the Animals on the farm read the commandment and it decreed “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets” (Orwell 67). The quote supports the thesis for the reason that Napoleon has changed the rules so that he is not breaking them, so that the other animals will not be tempted to confiscate Napoleon's power. The statement supports the quote because Napoleon decision to change the fourth commandment. Napoleon changes the fourth commandment without the vote of the other animals which leaves the animals no choice but to go along with the change for the reason that the animals have been brain washed.
The question of the necessity of zoos is extremely controversial nowadays. There are many people who advocate for replacing them with sanctuaries as they believe money spent on keeping wild animals captive might have been used for conserving them in wild. Others are concerned that zoos serve not only for people's pleasure but for preserving and keeping populations that otherwise would go extinct. There are sufficient arguments for both points of view, expressed in various articles that are dedicated to the significant topic. “Do elephants belong in zoos?” by Jeffrey P. Cohn and “Eight reasons why zoos are good for conservation” by James Borrell are the examples of such articles.
Over the past years littering has become quite a concern for our nation. Everywhere we look and especially during the rainy season, we see rubbish in the muddy water. This happens when we litter without concern. But have we thought about the damage we are doing to the environment? Littering means throwing away waste to any area without any concern about what damage it may cause.

Animal Farm by George Orwell is a story about animals that rebel against their owners on a farm. They then try to solve problems on how to run a farm. One theme in this story is ”Not everyone is equal; some people believe that they are more superior than others.” This theme is demonstrated by Napoleon, he’s a dictator and makes all the rules in the farm to fit his needs. Another theme in this story is “People deserve to have their own thoughts and ideas.
Sitara Swaroop Mrs. Geddy Honors E1, P.4 September 9, 2015 Animal Farm by George Orwell 1. The title Animal Farm represents the animals’ freedom after escaping Mr. Jones’ rule. While being led by Mr. Jones, the animals were held in a stage of slavery and had no power. They were in a position where they were living by someone else’s rules.
Have you ever wondered if animals in zoos are treated as well as the zookeepers say they are? Countless articles have been released, telling horror stories of horrific animal abuse in zoos. Zoos have starved, abandoned, mishandled, and sold animals to disgusting places. While zoos portray a happy, fun image, most zoos have a much darker underside below the public’s eye. For example: roadside zoos.
