Self Reflection
INTRODUCTION This summer I had the priviledge of working with Dr. Manju Rani, Regional Director of NCD & Tobacco Surveillance at the World Health Organization. Her brainchild, The Green World Education and Research Pvt. Ltd. is a newly established social start-up enterprise with the key objective of improving the educational outcomes especially for the children at the bottom of the pyramid in a self-sustainable manner. Litracy rate of any country being a pivitol development indicator hovers at a 74.04% in India. The cause of this is preassumebly government negligence topped with misdirected educational reforms. This organisation aims at providing an avenue for students enrolled in primary schools run by MCD in grades 4 and 5 to be able to read and write to the best of their learning capabilities. Literacy as an evolving concept is not only the grasping abilities of printed text, but also the ability to adapt to visual entities and technological awareness. Not only did this prove to be the most fulfulling job I had done, the exposure through the medium of this internship is also something I’ll carry with me for years to come.
