Smoking in public places: should it be banned? A large number of non-smokers are exposed to tobacco smoke in public areas. Stated by Hinds and First (1975), “Concentrations of Nicotine and Tobacco smoke in public places”. In some countries, smoking in public places is considered ordinary with no enough attention given to prevent the issue. Not many have enough information about the effects of smoking in open places and people that suffer from it. Most people start smoking because of peer pressure, stress, and boredom. In addition to these reasons, smoking in public places should be banned because it imitates the use of Tabaco and create second hand smoking.

Impersonating the use of Tabaco is a major issue caused by smoking in open places.
That is because; when a person is smoking in a public residence it might attract other people to start using Tabaco. For example, some see smoking (in general), as an act of toughness that makes the smoker look “cool”. So, when a person passes by a smoker in public, they might feel the need to smoke to look tough just like them. It may be true that smoking in public is a choice taken by the smoker. However, banning public smoking does not take away ones freedom but limit it. In addition, there are private sections for smokers to smoke in. Studies from around the world showed that banning smoking in public places might reduce heart attacks up to 36%, according to Rutherford (2009). For instance, a smoker might smoke in front of an old person unintentionally, unaware that they suffer from breathing or lung problems.
