1. One-male, multifemale. The first residence is a polygynous which consist of one reproductive age male, several mature females, and the immature offspring’s. The type of primates that utilize this residence pattern are gorillas, orangutans, howler monkeys, langurs, and Old World monkeys, such as gelada baboons. 2.
Male orangutans develop flanges at around 15-20 years of age. The orangutan only lives in the Sumatran rainforest and the island of Borneo, and is one of the largest apes. If the orangutan is not up in the trees(Which is where it gets around), it is on the ground crawling on all fours. Of course they have their knuckles tucked in. This is where the term knuckle walker comes from.
The fact that she [Lindelani] was the one to venture out — I always thought it would be the bigger ones,” Blackney said. “It will be interesting to see who will take the lead and who will be the most adventurous.” Abagebe was bred with Jabulani. Both were born at a South African wildlife facility and arrived at the zoo in 2012. The babies are important to zoos nationwide and to conservation efforts, said Ron Surratt, director of animal collections at the Fort Worth Zoo, because they are a completely new bloodline in the U.S. and Abagebe and Jabulani are not related. “That is good for the population,” Surratt said.
Most people are misinformed when it comes to the Florida alligator. Alligators just like any other animal or human being want a safe and secure area of living. These creatures want to be able to live out of harm’s way. One area that seems to be protective of these intelligent reptiles is known as The Florida Everglades. The Florida Everglades is the third-largest national park out of the 48 states.
The mouth is very large with a beak-like snout (figure 2). They have jagged teeth. The maximum length caught was approximately 250 centimeters but range from 85-105 centimeters with a maximum weight of 83 kilograms (Luna, n.d.). It does not have any gill rakers. Pectoral fins (2) on each side of its body is present.
People who register through Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have the ability to hunt and kill the snakes, but for a good cause. Reference 3 explains the good cause, “Scientists fear the invasive species might wipe out certain native mammals. Raccoons, rabbits, foxes and even the Florida panther could all be at risk”. This is a chance to keep the species under control and return the Everglades back to its original environment. Hunting of the burmese pythons is also quite enjoyable for some residents of South Florida who are willing to do what they can to help the environment thrive again.
Chimpanzee vs. Baboons Have you ever wondered which primates roam around in the wilderness? Well two of the most common animals are chimpanzees and baboons. These animals are very alike but they are also very different. Chimpanzees and baboons look nothing alike, so they don 't have any common traits. The chimps(chimpanzee)have a thick set body while the baboons have a strong torso.
Predators do fulfill a valuable ecological function because they naturally monitor the population of a lower level species in the food chain. If a predator is removed from the equation, their prey can over populate. www.livescience.com/ in 2009 said that because of the decline of the Sub-Saharan African lion and leopards, their prey such as baboons have increased and becoming bold enough to even attack children. The article talks about the reason for the predators’ reduced population is due to humans either building their houses in their habitats, or from being hunted by humans.
Body One of the advantages of having zoos, is to provide protection to some animals that are endangered. Animals such as the Tiger, Pandas and African Chimpanzees are kept inside zoos in order to preserve their species and prevent them from going extinct. They are well protected from their predators which allows them to breed and, hopefully, repopulate their species in order to keep their species alive. One of the examples is that zoos implemented International Breeding Programs in order to help these endangered species breed. As the numbers of that
Due to animals running around in the wild, scientists and researchers can track the amount of animals being killed everyday. This usually causes extinction within that species, and researchers have decided to do something about it. Although endangered animals are born in the wild, they should be sheltered and protected in nature parks because it helps decrease the amount of extinctions, allows a better and healthier environment, and the animals are protected from predators and human hunters. Endangered animals are to be kept in zoos because it decreases the amount of extinctions. Human activities have affected animals living in the wild dramatically throughout history.
