Even today the fight for reproductive health care has been problematic. Planned parenthood stands as an advocate for woman’s health. Planned Parenthood has strived to make a difference in woman’s reproductive health care and continues to implement their goals as stated in their mission statement: Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual's income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence. Whether the patient in need has a low income, is diverse, has different sexual orientation, is of a young or old age, or lives in a different town Planned Parenthood will help. Planned parenthood does all of this and more because it is a right for woman, men, and teens. Should people who have lower income be refused medical attention? No. Should people of a different race be denied their rights as a U.S citizen? No. Should Planned parenthood, one of the main sex educators and trusted health care providers, be punished for helping and saving the lives of millions around the world? Many will oppose me and bring up how we should defund planned parenthood because they still perform abortions which, in religious terms, is morally wrong. President Obama has signed that bill to avoid a government shutdown over the issue of defunding Planned Parenthood to cut spending. Planned Parenthood is the nations largest abortion provider, which is the reason why Republicans want to defund it, along with a recent video leak by anti- abortionist republicans of officials apart of Planned Parenthood discussing the illegal sale of fetal tissue. The video was said to be edited and the group denied any illegal activity. Planned Parenthood receives about twelve percent of its $528.4 million dollars from the government through grants and reimbursements from a law called Title X. Title X gives money to not only Planned Parenthood but also hospitals, schools, health departments, and other non- profits. About the other seventy- five percent of its money comes from patients they are serving insured by Medicaid. A government shutdown would mean that thousands of people working in the government would furlough if Congress did not make this decision.

Like every other policy there are pros and cons to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and the officials elected by the people of the United States will have to work together to find a compromise for the country. Most people against the Planned Parenthood Action fund are pro-life and mostly just against abortion, but even if Planned Parenthood Federation of America was defunded, abortions would still be legal and still performed, but maybe even more without the free provision of birth control. The only way to stop abortion is to make it illegal, not by defunding Planned Parenthood. Maybe Republican politicians like Carly Fiorina or Ted Cruz will be able to defund Planned Parenthood Federation of America in the upcoming years, but maybe the democrats will once again block their attempts and keep The Planned Parenthood Action Fund

Planned Parenthood is a topic that is continuously discussed in correlation with the concept of money as many believe that it “...emphasizes abortions instead of preventative care” (Attira). Because of birthrights, abortions, and the controversy that surrounds such issues, many individuals believe that the government should not be responsible for providing funding. As a majority of the patients are low-income and living in Medically Underserved Areas, they are dependent on the organization because it is their only source for healthcare. What I would like for people to realize is that Planned Parenthood is more that meets they eye. They are more than people give them credit for, and they are more than an abortion clinic. The services they provide range anywhere from sexual education and contraception education to helping with gender identity and sexual orientation, or from reproductive services to cancer screenings and STI testing and treatment. They services they provide are endless, and all equally important. As someone who has struggled with their sexual orientation and with self acceptance, if I had known that Planned Parenthood provided services such as these, I would have taken advantage of them and gotten the guidance that I needed. Having services like these in place can help save thousands of individuals lives. Thousands of individuals struggle with self acceptance, and in the end commit suicide because they didn 't have anyone there to tell them that they were okay and that nothing was wrong with them, that they should be proud of who they are. Many individuals who struggle with gender identity issues, sexual orientation, and self acceptance do not seek help because they do not know where to find it. Defunding Planned Parenthood would dismantle services and programs such as this, and make it even more difficult and even more impossible for individuals struggling to get the help and guidance they need towards self
