THE CHANGE OF THE EVERGLADES
BY:EXAVION VALENTINE The presence of the Burmese python is killing the Everglades. According to Andrew Ng Burmese python are “wiping out humongous numbers of opossums, racoons, bob cats as well as many species of birds.” Florida has hosted a challenge to take down this invasive species. Clearly, the Burmese python is drawing hunters to the Everglades. According to Andrew Ng in his 2013 article, “to address the problem, the state’s Fish and Wildlife Commission is sponsoring its first ever Python Challenge.” This statement means that hunters are coming to participate in this challenge. This is important because it can get rid of the pythons in the Everglades. Andrew Ng goes on to say “Prizes will be awarded

According to Burmese Python: not the ideal pet, Matt Piven states that the python can “grow to an astounding length of 23 feet and a weight of up to 200 pounds.” This means that python pets can escape from cages. Without a doubt, this matters because the adult snake can escape and wander off and do something dangerous, or it could end up is someone else’s house. Matt Piven goes on to say “The pythons unique hinged jaws allow it to swallow an object five times as wide as its own head.” In other words Piven means that it can easily swallow almost anything it pleases. This is significant because no one wants to die accidentally because of a pet. Pets are to be loving and caring and not like these killing machines. In fact, Burmese pythons are making a negative impact on the ecosystem. In Andrew ng’s article titled Florida’s Python Hunt, he states that the python has “no natural predators, these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and bob cats as well as many bird species.” This means that these snakes are taking out smaller animals. This is extremely important because they can drive animals toward extinction which could end up terribly for
The Burmese python are a beautiful reptilian creature, with camo pattern skin. They are originally from Southeastern Asia and have invaded the everglades in florida. You ask yourself how did a creature from Asia come all the way to florida? Well pet stores have been selling Burmese pythons and have made it out, and are harming the everglades. First of all the everglades are found in florida and are an area marshy tract of land that is mostly under water and covered with tall grass, Burmese pythons have made their way into the everglades.
How is the presence of Burmese pythons changing the Everglades? The Burmese python is a beautiful snake that can weigh up to 200 pounds and grow up to the length of 23 feet according to Piven 44. These snakes are native to Southeast Asia and ended up in the Everglades. These snakes mean no harm but due to irresponsible owners these snakes have adopted to the Everglades ecosystem.
Competition is fierce in the Everglades. The playing field is filled with native species, hungry for a win. A beautiful door is opened, and majestic Burmese Pythons slither in. These Burmese Pythons take over with their huge appetites and sharp teeth. These eating machines don’t provide a benefit to the Everglades, instead, they harm the ecosystem.
This means they're very big and capable of eating many things. After Hurricane Andrew huge amounts of Burmese Pythons escaped to the Everglades after the hurricane ruined an exotic pet dealers warehouse and freed tons of pythons. According to Source 4, it says, "Hurricane Andrew didn't help matters. An exotic pet dealers warehouse that housed nearly 900 Burmese Pythons was destroyed, and many of its' pythons escaped". Now there are tons of Burmese Pythons in the Florida Everglades and it has raised many problems.
Burmese pythons are greatly changing the Everglades. One main point, Burmese pythons are changing the local animals. Pythons are killing all of the other animals in the Everglades! In the first paragraph of Source 2, the author explains, “With no natural predators, these eating machines appear to be wiping out huge numbers of opossums, raccoons, and bobcats, as well as
This is because they eat at a massive rate. All the animals they eat are the ones running around your yard. It is our job to recognize our mistakes as humans and help protect the native environment from these Cuban treefrogs and kill them. If we are to eliminate these frogs we will see a return to what the Florida environment used to
Snakes can really give a shiver through people 's body. Did you know Burmese pythons can grow about 4 times your size. The Everglades is located in Florida and being taken over by big snakes. This is a bad thing because the Burmese pythons wiping out many species of animals, ten of thousands of these snakes called Burmese Pythons are living in the Everglades, and People are setting up to hunt these snakes with a grand prize of 1,000 dollars. With the snake’s owner not knowing what they were getting into when the snakes got too big they released the snakes to the wild.
cold spell of January 2010, all of those pythons died (2010). All of this evidence leads scientists to believe that the Burmese Python invasion will stay in Southern Florida and not become a problem for the rest of the southern United States. Burmese Pythons are very elusive snakes and despite their large size, can be very difficult to find. In this study, tracking dogs will be used to find the snakes and their handlers will remove them once found. Dogs are known for their strong sense of smell and many are bred to hunt animals.
Burmese Pythons are overpopulating The Everglades, causing many effects on the ecosystem. This is affecting the local animals, the people, and the snakes themselves. The Burmese Pythons are overpopulating The Everglades. It is estimated that tens of thousands of snakes are living in The Everglades.
You might be flabbergasted right now and thinking to yourself “Oh my gosh! Thats impossible!” Pythons are magnificent when it comes to catching their prey. These non-toxic creatures can win any battle. Based on what I
The text piece entitled “Do You Really Want a Baby Tiger?” states “While it is true that even dogs and cats can injure their owners or other people, they do not have the same unpredictable potential for serious or even deadly attacks that many exotic pets do” (Lewis). This represents how danger can strike at any time especially with exotic animals. The text piece also states “Exotic pets can also spread disease” and “In addition, many exotic pets end up on the loose in the wild”. Therefore, exotic animals are highly dangerous and they can be very harmful to people. People should get exotic animals as pets if they know that they could bring harm to them or anyone that the animal could get
When we visit the zoo, we all thought monkeys and lions are cute animals, taking pictures with them and trying to get their attention. But when you live next to one, you no longer feel the same. Even if they are cubs or infants, you still see them as threats. I am sure some of you are facing the same problem, but that’s not your fault. Right now, Alabama is one of the few states yet to establish a law which requires an owner to obtain a license to possess big cats, monkeys, bears or other exotic animals.
Thus, one can see that even though an animal such as s lion is trained, fed, and taken care of, the fact that they will be obedient and safe cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, it is not wise to hold exotic animals as pets, for no one can be sure whether or not they are disciplined and harmless to be
Maintaining an environment suitable for an animal from a different ecosystem is extremely time consuming and expensive. Modern day homes are not equipped with backyard jungles for Bengal tigers, or large amounts of spaces with objects for chimpanzees to climb on. It is nearly impossible for exotic pet owners to imitate the natural homes of these animals, which is what they require to ensure the animal lives a comfortable life. What most fail to realize is that these animals will not be able to adapt from a South American jungle, or African plain to a caged in backyard with a completely foreign ecosystem and lifestyle than these animals are meant to belong in. Finding veterinary care for exotic animals is a difficult task, let alone being able to meet the dietary needs of large, carnivorous animals or massive mammals.
2. They do not feed very often nor eat very much, and so they do not produce much faces. 3. Daily removal of faces and urine, as well as any uneaten food, will ensure that your snake’s tank does not smell at all, unlike a great many other types of pets.
