A REPORT ON CAUSE AND EFFECT DIAGRAM OF A PRODUCT PACKAGING PROCESS
INTRODUCTION
”The pressure from globalization has made manufacturing organizations move towards three major competitive arenas: cost, responsiveness and quality” (Hairulliza M.J. et al, 2011). Product success depend on; product design, manufacturing efficiency, product packaging, marketing and cost. These factors are correlated and defines the quality of a product in the market and in the eyes of the consumer. In availing the product to the market, quality assurance officer should ensure that all the processes are done professionally and the product is reliable and functions as expected. Cause and effect diagram is a means of identifying, sorting and displaying possible problems and finding exact solution for them. The diagram demonstrates connection between the consequence and factors that have a role in the outcome. This graphical presentation of inherent problems provides a structured way of providing solutions even before the problems appear. Interestingly, the company had put measures in place to tackle some of the obvious causes identified. Causes related to the machine and power had been fully addressed, may be due to the advice of mechanical and electrical engineer. The company has measures in place to tackle machine breakdown, control and maintenance by hiring permanent qualified operators for the job. A standby generator has also been installed to tackle any problem relating to power.
Causes related to product and packaging bags can be solved by; having a person or a form of technology to verify product coming from production line if they meet the required standard before proceeding to be packaged. Packaging bags should always be delivered on time for verification of labels and cross checking quality and standard.
Working environment and staff are related and therefore a solution is sort considering both causes. Working environment should at all times be conducive, safe and friendly to avoid accidents and long term health complication on workers. This helps in reducing medical bills and insurance cover for workers. Worker’s grievances should always be taken in consideration to maintain a certain level of productivity at all times. If the grievances cannot be met, communication regarding company’s stand regarding their concern should always be on
