5 must have skills of the 21st century corporate leaders
The majority of managers are familiar with the fact: The only thing that is constant is change. Ironically, the majority doesn't want to change or not ready to adopt the change. The few, who are avid to pursue change are not just managers, they are the leaders. Leaders have three attributes in common viz., ability to predict a change, ability to anticipate a change and ability to harness a change. Peter Ferdinand Drucker - American management consultant, educator, and author once said, "Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations." The vision and performance depend on individual's propensity to change and that is 'Personality'.

Like engineers, teachers, and computer professionals, corporate leaders too, must need to change themselves as per the needs and demands of the time. There are five key attributes that influence the decisions and actions of a leader, and the performance of the organisation she/he is
As a result, Hillier made his book into a process. He takes the reader through the processs, step by step, to help better their leadership qualities/abiilties. Hillier covers twelve qualities that a “leader” should pertain. They include: being trustworthy, passionate, strong work ethic, resilient, integrity, flexibility, accountability, confidence, communicaton, courage, organization, and caring. The first quality, is characterized by more than simply caring.
LEADERSHIP QUALITIES 26. The dictionary meaning of Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization, or the ability to do this. According to Dwight D. Eisenhower “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. To become an effective Military Leader, one need to have some significant leadership qualities”.
(Kerfoot 1998) (Evans, 2003). The Personality traits for good leader are activity level or energy, adjustment, dominance, assertiveness, emotional balance and emotional control, self- confidence, originality, intelligence, tolerance of stress, personal integrity, independence, achievement motivation, sociability, responsibility, initiative, and diplomacy (NYSTEDT 1997). Furthermore, Agreeableness and conscientiousness is perceived as a trait for transformational leaders (ARTOG2 et al 2005).
This is a valuable trait of a leader that I embody. Another trait that is vital is responsibility. To keep up with my busy schedule that includes schoolwork, sports, service, as well as being social, I stay very organized and responsible. This helps me greatly in my endeavors as a leader, as do the other qualities I
I believe that Leadership, in turn, comes naturally with my personality and my yearning for perfection. I have always been told that I am a good leader and that I listen to others. My leadership skills naturally stem from my character and my morals. I would never influence others to do something that I felt was wrong or immoral. I also feel that my character influences my willingness to serve others.
Throughout my entire life I have been constantly learning and improving a wide range of personal and social leadership skills, especially in these most recent few years of middle school and high school. These skills have not only helped me to get where I am today, but have also become a huge influence for my personality and overall perception of the world around me. These skills have helped me to build relationships, gain experience and opportunities, improve my personal outlook, and change my entire approach to everything I do in a positive way. But I know it does not stop there. It is never truly possible to fully possess a leadership skill in its entirety.
Leaders need to be very caring and show a genuine passion to work with others. Being passionate about the employees drives a leader to learn more about their greatest attributes and their greatest weaknesses. By learning these about each employee shows that not only does the leader what himself to succeed, but wants his employees to succeed as well. Furthermore, a leader needs to be sincerely caring on learning about its employees; it is not something that they should or can fabricate. If the employees feel that the leader does not care and they are only pretending to, then the employees will not respect the leader.
Those individuals who were believed to have these inherent skills were people of very influential status, wartime heroes and those of great wealth. The people who emerge or are most picked to lead have distinctive drives and character profiles (Nicholson, 2013, p.16). Leadership Thought Development from 1900 – 1970 The thought of leadership evolved from the Great Man Theory to Trait Theory and Behavior Theory. The trait theory focuses on identifying distinctive personality traits and characteristics that are associated to successful leadership.
Leadership Trait Questionnaire The Leadership Trait Questionnaire (LTQ) showed that I lack in self-confidence, self-assurance, and feel that I lack in insight. I show strength in determination, being outgoing, friendly, empathetic and sensitive, I rated myself as fours in these categories and a five in the outgoing category (Northouse, 2016). It is essential to show self-confidence and self-assurance when in a leadership position.
From the mainstream perspective, he has shown different types of leadership. It also includes several theories like trait, skill, behavior, contingency and transformational. Trait theory states that the personality of a person would determine if he or she will be able to lead. In case of Steve Jobs, his personality was radiant and flamboyant. He was confident, committed and charismatic to take any leap or risk with the support of his team and customers to pursue his aspiration (Katzenbach, 2012).
In this regard, leaders and managers can appear at any level of an organisation and are not exclusive of each other (Germano, 2010). Leadership theories identify leaders based upon traits as well as how their influence and power is used to achieve organizational goals and objectives (Germano, 2010). As such, trait based characteristics include leaders such as autocratic, democratic, bureaucratic and charismatic. On the other hand, leadership that is viewed from the perspective of the exchange of power and its utilisation to secure outcomes, are situational, transactional and transformational leaders (Germano, 2010). It is of paramount importance to consider the different types of theories of management and leadership and their potential impact on organizational strategy being that management and leadership plays a vital role in the success of businesses.
This paper will examine the three leadership theories, identify how they apply to my practice, and explore how these theories interact with each other. The Trait Leadership Theory is based on the belief that a person is born with special traits contributing to natural leadership abilities. Studies of famous historical leaders have been used to identify various traits for this theory. Although the list of traits differs from study to study, there are five major traits that are consistent throughout most studies.
Leaders also need to show everyone how to behave, and they need to be honest, show appreciation, and work towards a bright future. If a leader is not effective the whole company can fall apart. Leadership is all about the relationship between those that aim and strive to lead and those who select and follow them and work together on shared goals. I agree that poor leadership can also lead to poor customer satisfaction and also decrease profits. Being an exemplary leader does make a difference, so all of the characteristics, skills, and more you have mentioned are very important.
