I believe high schoolers should do 15 hours of community service to graduate. In fact, I think 15 hours should be the minimum! It is very important that a prospective graduate experiences the discipline required for community service. It help prepare them for the real world, the world outside of school.
There may be people who disagree with me. They may think community service is more a punishment than a joy. Some might think it is best for someone who got in trouble. Many others might reserve community service for those who need to learn a lesson. I, however, view it as character building tool. It is always better to give back to your community, not just take from it.

I believe when you help someone in need you are really helping yourself. Why not contribute in a positive way? Afterall, where you live often shapes the kind of person you ultimately become. It is such a fantastic feeling to see the looks on the faces of those you have helped.
A person could volunteer at a nursing home, youth center, park, or museum. You can give of your time and talent. Teach someone to paint or write. Spend hours with the elderly. Read to children. Give our food at a homeless shelter. Cut someone’s grass. Help clean up a highway. If you help others you will end up feeling good about yourself
Volunteering time at church and school have become a major part of what I do. The youth group I belong to at St. Thomas UCC collects items and put together hygiene bags for the YWCA. For school, I often volunteer to help with the bands, working in the kitchen for Indoor Drumline shows and helping to set up the Craft Show. I also assist my classmates if they request it. If a student is absent, I will take responsibility to send them notes they may have missed in class, and also what they homework is so they can attempt to do it.
Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.
Community service: This type of restitution requires the juvenile offender to perform a certain number of hours of community service, such as picking up trash, painting over graffiti, or working in a community garden. Community service can be an effective way to teach young offenders the value of community involvement and civic responsibility. It can also be a way for them to directly make amends for the harm they have caused. However, community service may not be appropriate for all cases, especially those involving violent or serious
The bulk of my service hours comes from my position as a CIT at Pilgrim Day Camp, which did not qualify as community service. I would like to emphasize that I was not given any money for my work at the camp. I would define community service as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. Being a CIT was completely voluntary, and my work at the camp benefitted the campers and their parents. By being a role model for young children, I positively impacted their lives and guided them through camp activities.
Hence, the community service should be based on the needs of the community. Since community service is essentially meaning help the community. Why allow an individual to wear a donkey suit and prance around when there are individuals in need the basic necessities of life. 5 Do you think its fair that some first-time offenders have to serve jail time while others are allowed to enroll in diversion programs?
In the past I have helped my local Catholic Church. I did many hours of community service serving out dinner to Catholics, helping set up games for the youth, helping set up and clean up yard sales, and helping anyone in need of assistance. Currently I try to help students around me with homework, notes, and helping them understand a specific subject more. In the future I would love to donate to as much charities as I can. As I would have a stable job, I would be able to help those who are less fortunate by donating.
Whether it's helping with cleaning up after an event or donating to my community, I will always be willing to help out. I have many good skills and assets that can help me be better in my community and push myself in school and work. I have a lot of knowledge from over the years. I know how to apply my knowledge in my everyday life
“The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students,” as reported by nhs.us. I am truly honored to be part of this organization, as are some of my classmates. Although there are many requirements when determining who is chosen for NHS and who isn’t, the main requirements are academics, character, leadership, and service. I personally believe I fulfill all of those requirements. One of my top priorities throughout high school is to earn good grades, which can be difficult when I’m involved in many things.
Help change the world! Volunteering in your community can help out others in myriad of ways. This will create happiness in other lives. A nonprofit organization that can greatly improve the quality of one’s life is the second harvest food bank in central Florida. This organization is dedicated to helping the people that are in need of food.
Other things you could do for people is holding the door open for them, ask kids in your class if they need help with their homework , ask to do yard work for a next door neighbor, and donating to cause. Just some simple acts of kindness can change people 's lives forever. Conclusion
Volunteering should be done intrinsically. Many students find community service so difficult, time consuming, and not enjoyable. Therefore, they tend to only complete the required hours without any essential effort. To call mandatory community service 'volunteering ' is a problem because then we begin to confuse the distinction between an activity that is willingly done and something that is obligatory and perhaps not always rewarding. Volunteering should be something you choose to do because you want to do it, not because somebody made you do it.
The feeling one gets after doing something good for others around us is not explainable, but it sure helps us feel more human and develop a better view of the things around us, what if children and youth where exposed to the same feeling, in my opinion children and youth will start participating more and more in community service projects to feel that they did something for the community. Charity work should not be mandatory and people should not have community service requirements to graduate, get a job or have a scholarship. The feeling of doing good is simply washed away when charity works becomes mandatory, youth who want to volunteer will do more but those who are not really interested will have a negative idea for volunteering and community service. The problem is that many schools, institutes and universities around the world use the mandatory community service for graduation. For example the university I study in has mandatory 80 hours of community service to get your final
It is unfair to high school students who have to do community service hours in order to get their diploma. While doing community service teaches students responsibility, it distracts them from their more important school work. Students are then worrying too much about how they can get their homework done and study while at the same time getting their community service hours in. Community service should not be a requirement to graduate high school. Community service should not be forced upon someone.
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
