The lessons we learned at school have a tremendous impact on the ways in which we prepared for citizenship and on how we learn to take part in civic life of the society into which we are [will be] integrated. I will confess that it was very hard choosing a evidence, not because they was not many, but rather the opposite as everything we performed in class somehow connected to this core value. Murry discusses the need for students to learn the core essentials of American culture, history, and language. These essentials should begin to be taught early on in a student's elementary education. Beginning to educate younger students as soon as kindergarten is an advantage because smaller children find learning more enjoyable than older students will. Murray argues that college shouldn't be necessary to be literate. A kindergarten through twelfth-grade education should be able to teach the students everything they need to be a literate American.

A class novel should include real world situations to open students' eyes to social issues around them and help them better understand what is going on. Also stated in the article “The Importance of Diversity in Books”, reading about important issues “...creates empathy, and helps students to become more conscious of the world around them…” (Prescott 1). As students, we are still children growing up and trying to figure out our way around the world. Being introduced to real world problems at a young age makes us develop into more aware adults.

Ungar’s essay, Charles Murray discusses why a liberal arts degree is unnecessary in his essay, “Are Too Many People Going to College?”. Murray believes that the basics of a liberal education are indeed important, but that students should be provided the basics of liberal arts in elementary and middle school (Murray 223). In this essay, Murray cites E.D. Hirsch Jr.’s book Cultural Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know.” Hirsch Jr. and Murray believe that there is a “body of core knowledge” that all students should have, and that “this core knowledge is an important part of the glue that holds the culture together” but that this core knowledge should be taught in grades K-8 (Murray 224). Murray discusses how young children are much better at memorizing facts than adults are, to support his position that kids should be memorizing this core knowledge at a younger age (Murray 224).

Who am I? I am Quentina Burnett and I have been developed by socialization, to be able to fit within the society. Socialization is the process where an individual learns behavior, values, culture, and norms of the society to develop his or her personality to become a proficient person in the society (Keirns et al., 2016). This process starts in the early stage of a baby, to an adult, and continues until the individual dies. The process of socialization gives people and myself the basic social contact and social interaction needed to develop “self”.
