In The Next Canada: In Search of Our Future Nation Myrna Kostash assesses the future of Canada, one that she argues is different from her own generation. For the purpose of this research paper I will focus on Kostash’s subsection on culture and media – pages 65 to 76. It begins with the nexus generation, the group of individuals who bridge two periods of technological popularity: Industrial and Information (Kostash 65). This group, who was born between the early 1960s and late 1970s, have a unique ability to acknowledge the past while also living and understanding new wave technology as it grew. Kostash argues that mass media became the language of the generation and their ability to understand its broadcasting was a skill – they were experts.

The Reason Canada Need to Change the Senate Canada should change the Senate because the senate is useless, undemocratic and costly today. However, the principle of Senate is a good idea, so it is still needed and important. The Senate is a legislative body of the government, which has the almost the same power as the House of Common.
In 2002, Canada followed Homeland Security of United States and came up with an immigration plan. The bill was called “Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.” The focus of the bill was to stop people entering Canada and seeking asylum who will endanger the safety of the Canadians. The bill introduced strict law for people who will try to put the life of Canadians at risk. The law allowed immigration to remove people from the country who may pose a threat to the country.
History Culminating Reflection William K. L. Lore was an inspiration to many Canadians during his time. If I could meet him, I would ask how it felt to not only be the first Chinese Canadian to enter the Canadian civil service, but the first Chinese Canadian in the Royal Canadian Navy and in any of the British Commonwealth navies. Another question that would concern him would be, what made him study Mining Engineering, and if he was not able to study Mining Engineering, what else he would like to study. Furthermore, I would ask him about why he wanted to join the Royal Canadian Navy, as he most likely knew that people of Canada were racist and why he kept attempting to join the Royal Canadian Navy, even after he was denied entrance three times.
Applying the characterization of “roaring” to explain the 1920s in Canada would be deceptive. The decade of the 1920s contains events and actions that directly represent its disastrous ways. Several sectors of the economy lagged behind due to natural disasters, terrorism and immigration policies. The economic and social divisions between regions and cultures became more evident than throughout the war years. Several components and stories were hidden by the decade 's accomplishments.
Enslaved African Canadian and American’s participated in gaining their own freedom in a few ways, and they also helped each other in certain cases. Due to differences in sovereignty this affected how slaves could become free based on their physical location. Due to the unclear permeable borders between Upper Canada and the States, this allowed slaves to cross over the border without question of their ownership or enslavement status. Upper Canadian slaves such as the mother and son from the house of James Woods in Sandwich Upper Canada left to America in search of freedom, and similarly Moseby found his way to freedom in Upper Canada from America due to an escape to a British colony which abolished slavery. The values that are the most important to individualism are rule of law, and self interest. Though I am still growing in my values and beliefs as a male citizen in Canada I believe that rule of law is the most important to individualism because everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. Way back a long time ago people were ranked based on who their parents were. A good example of that would be the feudal system or the term we would call feudalism. The feudal system is a ranking system that has the King/Queen on the top and the peasants at the bottom.
CANADIAN IDENTITY By Rebecca Grimwood Does Canada have a secure identity, or have we become an American wannabe? The two countries share the longest border in the world, and have a similar amount of land mass. Many wonder if Canada is simply a smaller version of America. Although Canada is aware of America’s entertainment industry, concept of multiculturalism, and history, there are fundamental differences that make Canada’s identity unique and secure.
The improvement of the rights of the Canadian Immigrants Canada, as one of the biggest immigration countries, welcomes people from all over the the world and forms a representative multicultural atmosphere in today’s society. Over these few decays, the country has always been consummating the laws to provide immigrants equal rights and freedoms, and better treatments they could receive. However, Canadian immigration laws were not unprejudiced and it eventually caused a “legal discrimination” before 1976. The legal rights of the immigrant groups have improved significantly because of the demands of developing the country, the influences of the wars, and the globalization of the world. Since 1880s, more immigrants and foreigners came to Canada because of the railway construction project.
Pierre Trudeau is definitely one of Canada’s most successful Prime Ministers. He was able to bring Canada together by implementing the Official Language Act resolving the October Crisis and repatriating, creating Canadian Constitution and the Charter of Rights and Freedom. Pierre Trudeau was born in Montreal on October 18, 1919. He was raised in a wealthy Montreal suburb of Outremont. As he growing up he and his sibling spoke both French and English.
Canada should remain a Constitutional Monarchy for multiple reasons. Three of many reasons are: the impossibility of it being abolished, the monarchy being part of many Canadians’ lives, and how Canada's government works well even with the monarchy. To begin with, Canada should remain a Constitutional Monarchy because of how impossible it is to be abolished.
The world’s second biggest country has received a similar second ranking in terms of being ranked the greatest country in the world. The country, of course, is Canada. Canada, for a long time, has been considered one of the best countries in the world to live in as it welcomes immigrants, has a rich diverse culture for every nationality, free medical expenses, and of course , the Niagara Falls. A quote from an article from the Toronto Star said, “….. [Canada] draws some of its national identity from its expansive wilderness, has pronounced a long list of accomplished writers and artists, and is a high-tech industrial society with a high standard of living.”
When Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier stated, “As the 19th century was that of the United States, so I think the 20th century shall be filled by Canada”, the decades that followed provided his statement to be true as Canada became an independent and strong nation. The battlefields in World War One were a defining moment for Canada as their forces fought as one nation for the first time, instead of under British Command. Also, at the end of the war, Canada was recognized at the Peace Conference and signed the Treaty of Versailles as an independent country. Canadian individual identity is questioned often because it is so diverse and means something different to each person in Canada. Although there is not a set identity there are many values and beliefs that are owned by all Canadians. To find out what Canadians identity is, one has to take into account what has affected it. The United States is the biggest influence on Canadian identity. The U.S. culture is very similar to Canadians as we are exposed to it all the time in media sources.
Immigration has been and will continue to happen all around the world. There are so many reasons for people who come from different countries and ethnicities to move from country to country. The reasons why these people immigrate is either they are simply forced to, due to violence and hostility or that they are in search of a better life for them, and or their family etc. Canada being rated number one in quality of life has been a goal for people wanting to immigrate. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act ( IRPA) was established by the Canadian government in the year 2002.
