Within the school environment the ethos of the school should be noticed upon entering and the daily performance of the staff and pupils who attend and work for the school. All the staff that work in the environment have an important responsibly when it comes to children as children and young people are influenced by the behaviour they see from their role models, which can be teachers, family members and friends and teaching assistants such as myself. They are influenced by not just my behaviour but every adult within the setting, so everyone needs to make sure that they are not displaying negative behaviour or displaying a negative way of dealing with certain people or incidents involving others, otherwise this could affect other younger children
If all members of the school community are using the same principles and techniques when managing behaviour, it is much more likely that the children will respond in a positive way. The children will know the range of rewards and dispensations, and the order in which they will be used, no matter who is speaking to them about their behaviour. Workforce re-modelling has had an impact on a number of different professionals who are now working in schools. Support staff and midday supervisors, as well as those running extended school provision, should know the importance and impact of consistent methods. It is also important that support staff are given status within the school so that they are respected in the same way as fully qualified teaching
Any professional working with children or young people is responsible for the care and well being of those children. Making sure that a child is safe on or out of a school setting is of paramount importance. Not only does it make a child or young person feel safe in a learning environment but it also gives the child the security to develop and achieve from an early age. For children to be effectively protected, it is essential that everyone accepts the responsibility of their role and to also be protected in that role. E.g. when escorting a child to the toilet or a child needs to be undressed due to any accident, it is vital that another member of staff or child is present as to not allow any allegations of misconduct.
The children in a school are valued, with an environment that fully encourages and celebrates their learning and progression and how they are developing. The provision of a safe and secure learning environment for all its pupils should be provided through recognizing the importance of welcoming diversity and equal opportunities. The atmosphere within a school should be positive, with this being reflected in the attitudes of the staff and pupils, all caring for and taking pride in their surroundings and in how the learning journey of each pupil takes
Legislation is put in place to ensure that schools operate fairly and lawfully. Schools have rules and guidelines that they have to follow to ensure children and staff are kept safe in the working and learning environment. Children need to be protected from abuse and abusive material. Legislations are set in place to protect them and strict rules need to be followed. It is not just protecting children against abuse and neglect, but also to help a child to achieve their best, giving them the opportunities, nurturing and providing facilities along with keeping them safe. It is our responsibility to keep children safe such as, accidents while at school. Protecting them from bullying ensuring children can feel safe while at school and being approachable and someone for them to talk to with any concerns or problems. Regular talks during school, to explain and reinforce the consequences of bullying/cyberbully, verbal and physical abuse is not tolerated.
For example, bullying, intimidation, threats of violence and anti-social behaviours between peers and towards members of the public have been common features. The positive action taken by staff challenges poor, disrespectful behaviour and educates the young people about acceptable and unacceptable behaviours thus reinforcing clear routines and boundaries. This also helps the young people to settle down into home life. It also enables them to take responsibility for their actions and focus on their individual goals. Teachers and principals are acting for the parents of the students. Parents do not need a warrant to search their children. School officials are not the police.

Throughout this essay I will be explaining how a behaviour policy supports teachers and how it can also create an effective learning environment. I will also be highlighting any issues which could potentially arise from the use of a behaviour policy. A behaviour policy is guidance for members of staff within a school on how to deal with different behaviours, and sets out the expectations of behaviour for all children at the school. If a behaviour policy is written well it will support the formation of an effective learning environment. It encourages educators to examine the expectations and goals established for students, and also patterns and problems that might be in need of an anecdote. For example, the school’s Quality Review, Measurements of Student Learning (MOSL) and Classroom environments. Similarly, most schools form inquiry teams (professional learning communities) to concentrate on an aspect or focus group within the school and/or grade that is in greatest need of improvement.
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to share information on the development of the child and have a clear and constant flow of dialogue with the family. This will enable both parties to deal with any issues that may arise within the family, school or community. It also my belief that parents should have an active part in their child’s learning and be able to lend a hand whenever necessary, and having open communication with them will allow this transparency and connection between home and school. The community is vital in ensuring that the facilities around the community and school is appropriate for the different children and families to live in and grow. A very good example of this successful collaboration is the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy.
