INDUSTRIAL PROFILE
The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Limited or CAMPCO was founded on 11 July 1973 at Mangalore. The organization working on principles of co-operative was founded to mitigate the sufferings of arecanut and cocoa growers in India states of Karnataka and Kerala. CAMPCO has now extend its services to other states of India like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam and Goa also. The CAMPCO has now become multi state co-operative under relevant Indian laws.
CAMPCO has its Head office and a manufacturing plant at Baikampady in Mangalore. The company set up Chocolate manufacturing plant in 1986 at Puttar of Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka. The plant produces chocolates and other products of cocoa both

White variety supari is prepared by harvesting fully ripped arecanut and processing by sun drying for 40 to 50 days. After drying the nut, the shell of the nut has to be removed by hand/machine. The nut derived from this dried fruit is called Arecanut/supari/Betel nut. Red variety supari is prepared by harvesting the tender (green) arecanut and peeling the husk. The nut derived by peeling the tender nut, are processed as per the variety required (i.e, whole nut, two pieces, 8pieces etc), boiled in water and then sun dried. The white variety i.e, chali variety of areca is mainly grown in south Karnataka and north Karnataka and north parts of Kerala. The red variety of arecanut is mainly cultivated in Shimoga, Chikkamagluru, North Karnataka, chitradurga, tumkur districts of kerala. The arecanut or supari, what we call as bazaar stock, will have to graded in to several varities to suit their consumer taste.
