The reason or so-called cause to volunteering comes from a person wanting to help others and make the community or world they live in better. One might not feel as if the are benefiting much, but people all around doing little acts turns into much greater acts. The Benefits of Required Community Service Community service is talked about amongst everyone. Community service is unpaid community service work that benefits others in a community. All high schools should be required to have a minimum requirement of community service as a graduation requirement because it will help the student’s mental health, allow them to play a role in their community and establish lifelong habits. Community service boosts mental health because contributing to one’s community can show student that anyone can make a difference. All community service helps no matter how little .Many may say that they do not find helping a homeless shelter their ideal saturday activity but once the students realize the impact they have on the less fortunate most will have a feeling of self accomplishment.
the person is no longer in a negative situation where they are being emotionally abused. Self-esteem and self-image can also be improved further by being surrounded by positive people. After going through difficult times, it is common to have better and stronger relationships with those who have helped. To heal and move on, a person relies strongly on social support from friends and family. With good social support from friends and family, a victim is able to accept being a victim and live their live with more resilience, better self-confidence and stronger relationships.
Students who are more active in participating extracurricular activities are observed to benefit from various opportunities that come in their way especially in career path. Advantages for taking part in extracurricular activities includes higher standardised test scores, high educational attainment, getting better grades, attending classes on regular basis and have higher self-concept and confidence. Students who participate in outdoor activities learn skills including leadership and teamwork whereas reducing the percentage of getting involved in other harmful activities like (taking drugs, alcohol use and other health related issues). Various researchers have analysed number of ways where Extracurricular Activities (ECAs) are advantageous for students. As found by Purcell & Hogarth (1999), activities including dance and music, team sports, student government, public service all have led to improve the skills of students after college life and entering in professional world.
For high schools specifically, attendance is a serious issue. Students would be less reluctant to go to school if either a Friday or Monday was omitted from the school week. Because of this, students might have an improved attitude at school, which could lead to less violence. Going to school one less day per week would also conserve energy and save money for the school. For students whose parent or guardian drives them to and from school, driving to and from school one less time during the week would save them gas.
Based on the class discussions most of the students agreed that senior year is just as important as the other grade levels, however, some students said homework wasn’t important. Senior year, for most students, is the year they look forward to the most because they get more opportunities. Coming from Walter Kirn, senior year is, “...an adolescent Mardi Gras.” In that case, if high schools were to get rid of senior year, teachers would still have to teach the required curriculum that would of been taught senior year. Therefore, that information would have to be taught to the students in the three years of high school. Students wouldn’t be able to fail any classes, because the teachers would have to rush through sections or chapters in order to have to teach all of the curriculum for the year.
