Mesa Verde National Park was established by United States President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 as part of his efforts to preserve the natural structures built by the indigenous people of the Americas. Mesa Verde is first and foremost, the preservation of over 4,000 archaeological sites dating back to 1300 A.D.
Learn the origins of the indigenous people of Mesa Verde
Mesa Verde, which is spanish for green tableland, was originally inhabited by the ancient ancestral Puebloans for over 700 years. The sites at Mesa Verde include nearly 600 cliff dwellings that used to house the population of tribes in that area.
The dwellings at Mesa Verde are easily the most magnificent and best preserved ancient ruins in North America. These dwellings are homes, carved into the sides of overhanging cliffs, that housed the ancient Puebloans for over 600 years before they migrated to the top of the cliffs to begin their reign as farmers on the flat, green

This is also the most interactive and hands-on tour available at Mesa Verde. Complete with ladders, tunnels, and tiny crawl spaces, the Balcony House tour illustrates what life would be like living and navigating through the dwellings.
Since the tour involves some light physical activity and takes place directly on the archaeological site, it is guided by trained rangers only and requires tickets to be purchased ahead of time at Mesa Verde National Park Visitor Center for $3 USD per person. The tour lasts about an hour long and people of all ages are welcome.

What Was Theodore Roosevelt’s Inspiration to Create National Parks/Monuments/Sanctuaries and How Did It Motivate Presidents After Him? I chose this question about Theodore Roosevelt because of his infatuation with nature. President Roosevelt had many accomplishments with nature bound topics and I am interested in learning what inspired him to do them. President Roosevelt went on a number of expeditions and I wonder what inspirations he gained on those trips. Also, I wanted to know how presidents after Theodore Roosevelt were affected by his structures.
Roosevelt was the first president to create national bird reserves. He created 51 national bird reserves, 18 national monuments, and 150 national parks. For example, Roosevelt established the Grand Canyon in 1908 which is in Arizona. Also, some of the national parks that Roosevelt created are Carter Lake, Wind Cave, and Sully’s Hills. Roosevelt created the United States Forest Service because he wanted to protect lands and protect wildlife.
As President, Roosevelt had the power to preserve nature for future generations through setting aside lands that would later become the National Parks. According to Patagonia founder and outdoor enthusiast Yvon Chouinard, “It was John Muir who invited Roosevelt out and then convinced him to ditch his security and go camping. I chose to study about Tiwanaku, a pre-Columbian archaeological site in South America in A.D. 500 and compare it to Teotihuacan, a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city in 500 A.D. located in a sub valley of the Valley of Mexico. There a great similarities to each place but the two things that separates them is location and time. Tiwanaku is located in the southern shores of Lake Titicaca, in the Province of Ingavi, Department of La Paz. It was built nearly 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) above sea level, making it the highest urban centers ever constructed of its time. Surrounded by mountains and hills settled in a valley, it began as a small settlement in 1200 BCE that reached its peak of inhabitants roughly around 400 A.D. and 900 A.D..
It is believed that the Chief of the tribe or the Priests lived on top of the mounds while the rest of the tribe lived on the lower part of the village. The reason for this Belief is that most of the jewelry and fancier items were found on top of the mounds . The largest mound , Mound A has exactly fifty steps to the top . Remarkably , only one fourth of the original mound that was made over fourteen-hundred years ago is what is left. Mound H is the other mound and it is still a remarkable sight to see ,as it stands over
Vivian benne Hist Professor Date Navajo and Cherokee The Cherokee Nation is Oklahoma's largest Indian group and the second largest in the United States. The Cherokee Nation are the direct descendants of the tribal government that governed over much of the southeastern United States before European colonization. These two tribes are among the largest indigenous Americans that survived the European colonization of what is now the United States of America.
