While I have been fortunate to live in four countries, I have never lived in one where I am not fluent in the native language. Thus, if I have the opportunity to study both in Taiwan and Austria, I will be facing a challenge that I have never experienced. To live in a place where mundane obstacles are being aggravated by the language barrier. I am looking forward to that challenge because I believe that this experience can help me build character by encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone. The reason being is that daily chores can turn into life lessons by the challenge of living in cities where I do not speak the native language.
In addition, I am captivated by both Taiwanese and Austrian cultures. I believe that each culture has its treasure and a great way for me to learn about them is by living in each city. Alex is a friendly and charismatic guy from Hsinchu, Taiwan. I remember when we first met, he used to tell me stories about the Chinese temples that he used to visit, the night markets, the local cuisine and the island’s great scenery. From that moment on, I became interested in Taiwanese culture. His anecdotes enchanted me and inspired me to one day visit such wonderful place.
