The move back to Maryland was one of the biggest challenges in my life, everything was okay in Ohio until my step dad caused problems with me and my mom. It all started when my mom tried kicking my step dad out of the house for domestic violence. She kicked him out because not only has he fought with my mom, but he and I have fought a few times. Everything seemed fine at first until he kept bringing police officers to our house claiming almost all of our household items were his and he wanted to get them back. Of course the officers eventually weren’t allowing him to keep coming back to bug us about it and told him to go to the court and take the problem to a civil court judge.

Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, I have been surrounded by ‘black success’ instead of just ‘success’ for the duration of my life. The blacks in my area are equally as successful, if not more accomplished than, the non-blacks, but we are always titled separately and put into a captive box. The box we are held in told young girls that they should aspire to be athletes, cosmetologists, or plain unemployed. The same box told young men that they could only be considered “somebody” if they were able to catch a ball well. These are occupations we would ‘best be suited for’; these are occupations that perpetuate the box.
Moving out to Arizona has taught me to be bold and dauntless. It 's the greatest risk I 've taken and because of that, I plan on making many more. Taking what I enjoy most in life and turning it to a reality by creating my business. "Step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant."
Tish, I went to go watch finding dory and it brought back a lot of memories. I lost your number when I transfered my data on my phone but I just wanted to tell you that I 'm sorry. I 'm sorry that I didn 't communicate as much as I should have. For not showing you how much I cared about you.

Not everyone has the privileges to know what I’m about to tell you so consider yourself lucky. From what motived me to move to Milwaukee, my passion and my ambitions to succeed in life. Saturday morning like any other Saturday back in 2009, in Glenview a small town just north of Chicago) I woke up at 7:00am to get ready and go to work like any other day, back then I used to work at this restaurant called Yard House, I was a prep cook, my job was to have all the ingredients for the salads ready, from dressings to tortilla chips for the second shift.
5 years ago, one fresh midnight, arrived to a new place in Atlanta Georgia that our life forever changed. There were plenty of cars, trees, and building. It is fairly cold and the wind is blowing like the tree arms dance. Many lights that can be seen shine through the windows of buildings at night time. It quiet outside.
One day in July, my Aunt Beeh asked me and my sister Tiffany if we could pick up her daughters’ from their dads’ house in Atlanta. We both knew that our mom wouldn’t have a problem with us taking a day trip to Atlanta. However we knew our dad would say no. Our mom just told us “Just tell him you’re going halfway to pick them up.” And that’s exactly what we did.
When I was 14 I had to move to San Clemente, California. I had already recently moved temporarily to Texas while a house was made ready for us on the military base. “The house is ready!” my mother had said excitedly, after being on the phone for a few minutes. “It’s time to go back?”
While I am still quite new to Alabama, through recent caving trips to the state I have fell in love with everything the state has to offer. From the kind faces at every turn, to the wonderful caves and outdoors, I hope to call Alabama home in the near future. Additionally, with my brother starting college in Huntsville this fall, I am looking to maintain family ties by attending UAB.
When you lose someone, I don’t think it’s possible to heal. You can only learn to live with the pain. I feel as if my pain has been a never ending void. My father always tells me how lucky I am to have someone I can miss so dearly. How can he be so optimistic at this time of sadness?
By the end of a depressing cold January, I asked Nonno to drive me to the New Haven train station to inquire about a train schedule to Augusta, Georgia. I made my case why I wanted to leave, and he understood. When Mamma found out, she reacted rather hysterically; called it a crazy notion, and me a stubborn German. Nonno very quietly became my ally and suggested to wait until Frank came home from college for winter break, and he could take Patrizia and me to Georgia. Nonno offered to provide his reliable Chevy Bel Air for the long trip.
“We’re moving to North Carolina!” Exclaimed my father with particularly excited face. My heart dropped. I thought to myself “Was I really going to be ripped away from everything I’ve ever known?” I felt a cocktail of sadness and anxiety swirling in my gut as I ran out the door onto the porch in an indignant manor.
“Wake up,” My mom whispered. It was 6AM in the morning, and my family of four--my brother, my mom, my dad, and I--were packed up to take a roadtrip to Georgia, Alabama. Two of my families live in the area where we were going, and one of them was the family we were staying two nights with. The other family was my Uncle who planned everything, and everyone except my Aunt in that family was the one who didn’t know most of the family was coming to surprise her.
