Personal Wellness is a required course for all students at Edina High School. Personal Wellness is a course designed to teach you about mental and physical health, get active, and relieve stress. In the course, we do fitness testing, play sports, and meditate. There is a classroom portion of the course that is designed to teach students about nutrition, sleep habits, mental illnesses, and stress relief. I believe personal wellness should be required at Edina High School for all students unless they are an athlete. There are many reasons personal wellness should be a required course. One reason is that students get to learn about mental health and why it’s important. Throughout the semester, e have had multiple speakers come in to teach us about our health. One speaker was a sleep scientist, who taught us how much sleep we need and how to get quality sleep. He taught us that drinking caffeine afternoon would result in poor quality sleep, and we should be getting 8-9 hours of sleep. We …show more content…
If someone plays a sport, I do not think Personal Wellness is very beneficial to them as they already get enough physical exercise outside of school. Many students have to drop their study hall to take this course, which leads to less time for students to complete their homework. Athletes already have a very busy life and taking away study hall, results in more stress and less sleep. The part of personal wellness I do believe is beneficial to athletes and nonathletes alike is the classroom portion but students learn these lessons in health. I believe non-athletes should be required to take this course as every student needs to be physically active to stay healthy. However, I believe the course should be geared at personal achievements, with less focus on fitness testing like the mile as this is very stressful for many

The wellness of a human being has been broken down into five sections. These sections are: emotional wellness, intellectual wellness, physical wellness, social wellness and spiritual wellness. I think my strongest section for my personal wellness is my emotion, intellect and physical wellness. However, my weakest sections are social wellness and spiritual wellness. I believe that my emotional wellness is my strongest section.
Overall, I had a very positive experience during this first week of my mental health clinical rotation. When I went into the hospital, I was a little apprehensive because of the stories the orientation nurse told us about the different units. However, when I got onto the unit, I realized that these children were the same as other kids, but they had different mental health issues from their past experiences or their genetics. Most of the kids on this unit did not do anything to become the way they are.
