They would also not want to pay attention in class. People that think that we should have school later think that this will help them but it will actually not because if you are in a sport you will get home later and have to do all their homework in the morning and rush and probably not get as good of grades as they usually
Imagine having piles and piles of homework and you don't have time to finish it, you have to end up staying up late to finish it. The next morning you have to wake up at 6:45 and school starts at 7:35. This is a struggle that many kids have to face every day. In school many kids are tired and some even fall asleep. Research has shown that starting school later has a better effect on kids and allows them to pay more attention in school because they’re awake.
Having school start later it would just mean that teens would go to bed at the same late time or even later which would mean they wouldn’t have anymore sleep then they had gotten before. Pushing back the school starting times would not do anything for the amount of sleep the teens would get. There would be some teens that would go to bed at a good time and get more sleep and that would help them with their grades, but every few would do that because most teens are addicted to their phones/electronics so they would stay up on their electronics and not go to bed till later in the
Usually, most kids spend about 6.5-7 hours of school from monday-friday, not only are students in school for many hours but for 5 days and homework just adds more hours at home. For are future athletes, most can’t practice or even do a sport because homework takes up most their day, causing students to lose the privilege of doing an outside activity. Though, many would say doing homework keeps the school mode of learning and prepared for the next day. The final reason why homework can be harmful is homework can even cause family issues or illness. Many would say “How can homework cause family issues?”, well there is one main reason.
After 7 hours of school, the last thing a student wants to do is to get out their books for another hour. Kids of all ages participate in extracurricular sports and activities, and need time for themselves as well, doing things like reading or listening to music. Homework takes away from that little bit of time left over from after school recreation, time that would otherwise be used for time with friends and family. Mental health is also a huge issue for kids, especially teenagers, which homework certainly does not help with. As you get older, obstacles in life are seen in perspective to your past experiences, making it easier to avoid getting overwhelmed.
I agree with starting school a later time in the morning because it will benefit the students by functioning properly in school and it will prevents car accidents. On the other hand, other people disagree with my argument because they argued that kids need to go to bed earlier. My first reason why school should start at a later time, is that kid will perform and function better in school. Having to get up at 6am in the morning to get ready for school can be very stressful. Kids will get up early to go to school and still feel sleepy because they're sleep-deprived and that can affect how they perform in school.
If it’s hard to perform daily tasks without sleep think of how hard it would be a student and keep up grades in high school without sleep. Which is why high school should start an hour later. “Later start times also generally correspond to improved attendance, less tardiness, less falling asleep in class, better grades...,” (School Start Times, Sleep, Behavioral, Health, and Academic Outcomes: A Review of the Literature). Grades are very important in a students life, grades affect what college a student will get into and future jobs. There’s a simple solution, just make high school start an hour later.
Imagine a world without homework. Wouldn’t it be great? Unfortunately, far too many students get homework every night. Recent research even suggests that some students are getting excessive amounts of homework. One study found that kids in early elementary school received about three times the amount of recommended homework.
Lots of people may disagree with the idea of us starting school later and say the school hours are just fine. They may come up with reasons like if we give the children too much time to sleep, they may gain too much energy and overtake the school. If that’s the case then schools need to make and enforce strict rules to keep their children under control, so that they don’t act out. They may also have a problem if we change the school dismissal time, because students already have dismissal plans that work. But then parents shall find an alternative way to get their children home that comprehends with the school’s schedule.
In the article it says parents of athletes would have to adjust to students arriving later in the evening.” but I can’t go any later. Another reason is you may think that kids should have better sleep because it helps them concentrate on their work more than falling asleep. Well then they should not stay up on their devices all night and go to sleep when their parents tell them. Some of this responsibility are the parents to, because they're the ones that have to take away those devices if your child is in first grade. when they're supposed to.
The answer: teens like you that stayed up all night. And now the school schedule has been shifted. Middle school and high school schedules shouldn’t be shifted, for several key reasons. One reason that schedules shouldn’t be changed is because of job hiring. Most jobs go from 8-5, so teens wanting to get jobs would have to get up at 7 to get ready.
