Let 's define procrastination: Procrastination: the act of procrastinating; putting off or delaying or deferring an action to a later time. This is simply one meaning of procrastination. There are many other meanings and interpretations but for the sake of simplicity we will just use the above definition. How many of us "putt off" until tomorrow what we should be doing today? It is believed that the majority of Americans procrastinate on a high scale everyday.
There are many reasons that one may choose to procrastinate, there are also consequences, but there are benefits that we tend to overlook. A lot of people procrastinate, but why do they do it when they know it causes them stress? “Many people tell themselves that they procrastinate because they are disorganized, lazy, or worse, because they just don’t care enough” (Wiegartz). Some people believe that if they procrastinate, they don’t have to blame their lack of skill for not getting things done correctly. Rather than blaming their lack of skill, they can blame their lack of attentiveness and motivation.
Procrastination is delaying or putting tasks behind. This effects many people especially college students. We tend to procrastinate which leads to a bad outcome in the future. When a task is due we tend to leave it behind and we don’t realize the causes and effects to this which is why I will explain the effects and outcomes to procrastination. The effects of procrastination is that we tend to leave things behind for later then this job or task will never be done.
Major causes of procrastination include fear of failure and poor decision-making. The next step is to adopt anti-procrastination strategies. Procrastination is a deeply ingrained pattern of behavior known as a habit, meaning it cannot be broken overnight. But with constant determination to stop practicing these habits, they can eventually be broken. Some strategies for breaking a habit are forgiving yourself for past procrastination, committing to the task, promising a reward for completed tasks, asking someone to check up on you, minimizing distractions (Mind Tools).
It is not a positive thing to work faster as you will never be focused because all you want is to finish on time in stress on that will lead to negative effects not positive even if you finished faster but that performing will be worse and that not seemed any pros for procrastination. In the mind of a master procrastinator Imagine you having this big test coming up. You plan to divide the studying over some days. But then you rather watch that movie, or hang with your friends thinking “but I still have the weekend”. But on the weekend you want to do other things. As a result of this, when there’s only one day left you panic and have to study everything in one day and sit up the whole night.
First, I will give you some background information about procrastination. Then, I will describe 3 changes you should make today to combat procrastination. So first of all what is procrastination, not to be confused by laziness. Procrastination is an active process, you choose to do something else instead of the task that you know you should be doing. In contrast, laziness suggests apathy, inactivity and an unwillingness to act.
Procrastinating is the worst path to lead people into wrong mind set and unsuccessful in life. Have you ever procrastinated yourself? I am hundred percent sure everyone rich or poor no one is perfect they used to. Procrastination means the action of postponing or delaying something until a later time. If you are lying yourself from day to day, the result of postponing will influence to your life such as health problems, destroy your reputation, and never achieve your goal.
Not only that, but it’s a conscious decision I still choose most of the time. It makes my life harder and isn’t beneficial in anyway, but I just can’t seem to stop procrastinating. I am interested to find out why people chose to procrastinate and how breaking this habit could be better in their lives.
