Some people believe schools should start later because students would get more sleep but they would just go to sleep later because they get up later. Schools should start at the same time because of transportation, cost, and after school activities. Since transportation is one big problem with schools starting at a later time, it should stay the same. Public busses are one way that students get to school in the morning and back home in the evening. The public buses might only go to the school at certain times in the day, and if school starts later in might interfere with those times.
Why school should start later? School days are not supposed to start before 8:30 a.m. for middle and high schoolers. This fact is supported by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine that links early days to car accidents along the roads, depression among the young teenagers and increase in poor performance academically due to early school days. Teens struggle through the challenge of waking up very early in the morning so that they can be at school at the right time.
Imagine teenagers across the country, stumbling through their homes at five thirty in the morning to prepare for the day. By the time they put on clothes and brush their teeth, they have to make a choice between arriving at school on time and eating breakfast. This is the reality for many school aged children every morning. Medical research studies have concluded that adolescents’ biological clocks are not programmed to wake up early and go to bed early. Instead, it is recommended that they wake up around ten in the morning.
A recent study shows 85.5 percent of students believe school should start after 9 am. Schools should start between between 9 and 9:30 am. Later school start times will improve students grades. Students cannot focus on self care with early starts. Students are more aware of what is going on at school with later starts.
Imagine having piles and piles of homework and you don't have time to finish it, you have to end up staying up late to finish it. The next morning you have to wake up at 6:45 and school starts at 7:35. This is a struggle that many kids have to face every day. In school many kids are tired and some even fall asleep.
“Now in this text we are finding that the tone is…….” “Wake up!!! You fell asleep in class for the second time this week!!! We have a test tomorrow get some sleep so you do well on it.” Going to bed at midnight, waking up at five o’clock in the morning.
Success, the one thing that almost all teen strive for but maybe misdirected. Late start school will affect: transportation, health care, child care, and many other problems yet to be revealed. Late start will help no one. It will create countless problems along the way and is a big mistake. Traffic, budgets, and stress levels will all be affected for the worse in this joke of an idea called late start school.
The Controversial Idea of School Starting Later An Obvious Issue The issue concerning the best time for schools in the United States to start has been quite a controversial one throughout the years. In the contemporary society, and on average, school going children and teenagers do not like waking up early to prepare to go to school. Often they find it as a major challenge, especially if they stayed up late at night doing schoolwork, engaging in chores, or other activities.
