My topic for the research paper is how pit bulls are stereotyped as aggressive dogs. The reason I chose this topic is that I am going to school to be a veterinarian, and animals have always been a passion of mine. I have owned a pit bull for a few years now, and never have never seen any signs of aggression in him. Many other people own pit bulls, and have never seen their dogs be harmful to the people or other animals too. Unfortunately, many people in the world today consider pit bulls to be the most aggressive breed of dogs on the planet. Pit bulls owners and potential owners of this amazing breed are in awe of this controversy, because we see no wrong in our pets. Although, there have been numerous attacks on humans and other animals by
On June twentieth, 2014, Charlotte Alter, a Times News author discharged an article titled "The Problem With Pit Bulls". This article was in light of an episode where a three year old young lady and her family were requested to leave a KFC eatery, since her "face was disturbing clients". Three year old Victoria Wilcher built up these wounds since "Her granddad's three pit bulls battered the little child until the point that a large portion of her face was incapacitated and she lost the utilization of one of her eyes". Charlotte Alter utilized Victoria's episode to contend that pit bulls should either all be cleaned, prohibited or controlled on the grounds that they are "normally" brutal and unpredictable. She upheld her contention with tenable
In the media and the pit bull, James Cross said “News outlets consistently tell animal control officers that they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pit bull”. If the media is only shown how bad Pit bulls are then they think they are aggressive dogs and other dogs are great. Pit bulls are not aggressive, the media makes it look that way so don't believe
If they pick on one, they pick on all. James Cross also said, “ Even if later later revealed that the dog was not a Pit bull, the damage is already done. The idea of Pit bulls being dangerous is in the public's eyes.” James Cross even said, “ People are terrified and have even stopped going to people’s houses, thanks to the media.” Instead of the bad things Pit bulls do we need to focus on the good too!
People that believe that pit bulls are aggressive dogs, you should look at a well-trained pit bull and an untrained dog and see that any dog can be aggressive without training and love. Any dog can be aggressive and mean by just how you raise the dog, if the dog is abused then the dog will be scared and if the dog is loved and cared for the dog is very loving and loyal. When dogs get sick or hurt they don 't like to be played with, they might even bite a person, they get mean because they are hurting and weak, so there instincts tells them to protect themselves. People think that pit bulls are a breed that will most likely bite people, but that 's not true, the American Veterinary Medical Association found that no dog is more dangerous than
“There are about 78 million dogs in the United States, meaning less than 17% of dogs bite less than 1.4% and kill less than 0.00001% of the US population.” states Lindsy Marchello, Brian Hare, Vannessa Woods, and United States Burau. It is important to know this because discrimination should not happen against dogs just because they are at the top of the list for being brutal. People need to remember that not all of them are like that. Not all pit bulls are mean.
People say pit-bulls are dangerous and that they are monsters; however, humans are the real danger and the real monsters. Pit-bulls should not be blamed for their owners mistakes; therefore, people should not blame an entire dog breed for the few who have been trained to be aggressive and mean. The owners should be at fault, not the breed of the dog; the breed’s owners have raised them to be aggressive and mean. Although, in certain people’s opinions, they are mean to others, but they are actually great dogs to have as pets. Humans have always been the real monster in these situations, yet most people do not see it that way.
Across the nation animal shelters are flooded with unwanted or homeless dogs, 74% of them being pitbulls. It is strongly believed, by some, that animals are not born mean they are made mean. Many people like to jump to the conclusion that Pitbulls and similar dogs, are naturally mean, but in reality they make the best family pets if treated
Now people want to ban the all Pit Bull mixes or any dog that could be mistaken for a Pit Bull. But by using breed specific legislation would be wrong because you would be taking innocent dogs away from their loving family. So I say Pit bulls should not be banned for their behavior when they are trained to be aggressive and short tempered. The American Pit Bull Terrier is well known for superior intelligence, strength and loyalty. in recent years this breed has been mis advertised as violent and vicious.
Having a pit bull as a pet is like having any other pet, most pit bulls are warm, cuddly and very enthusiastic. They tend to provide security, comfort, and studies have shown that pit bulls have an extreme and extensive psychological and therapeutic effects on humans of every age. Yet in over 1,000 US cities and more than a dozen of counties within 36 states it is illegal to own this specific breed and they have a “breed-specific legislation”. Pit bulls were not born vicious or aggressive; they are raised to behave this way by irresponsible people. Although others state that studies have proven that pit bulls carry this aggression in their DNA.
Should people be allowed to keep pit-bull dogs as pets? Yes, People should be able to keep pit-bull dogs as pets. Pit bulls are just like other breeds of dogs. All breeds can attack when they feel like they or someone that they love is in danger.
Pit Bulls have many stereotypes put on them that have gone on for far too long. Those in society who believe these certain stereotypes to be true, need to understand and realize they are not. Stereotypes such as, that Pit Bulls are naturally aggressive, that it does not matter how you raise them that no matter what they will always hold and show aggressive acts and behavior. Another stereotype is that Pit Bulls have special mechanisms such as a locking jaw. From both of those stereotypes comes a media bias on the breed that creates more and more stereotypes.
Allowing people to have pit bulls in their own care is question for many (Time). People should be able to own a pitbull for many reasons. Pit bulls are great dogs because they are good with most people, especially children. They are very obedient and some respond to commands if told to do so. They are also very helpful at times and easy to train.
Some pit bulls are penurious. There have been many pit bull attacks in the past and the present. One such attack happened to Justin Clinton. He was a ten year old boy who was mauled to death by two pit bulls. The mother of the child wants there to be a law called Justin 's law.
“Crunch!” that’s the sound of your bones. I personally believe that Pit Bulls are not a very good pet of a family. These dogs have bad characteristic such as, them being fighting dogs, they are aggressive, they are unpredictable, and they bite a lot of people. To start with, Pit Bulls are fighting dogs.
There is a myth about pit bulls that says they have locking jaws, but their jaws actually exert less force than that of the rottweiler and the german shepherd. In terms of the potential of the dog to cause bodily harm, the caucasian ovcharka ranks number one at the top of the list. The list ranks pit bulls as number two stating that the majority of the pit bull breeds were used for dog fighting and are CONSIDERED the most dangerous dog in America, which does not prove they are. Statistics aren’t always accurate when it comes to the actions of the dog. The nature of pit bulls is not to be aggressive to a point where they cause major bodily harm; their experiences, their owners, and their upbringing determine their actions.
