My topic for the research paper is how pit bulls are stereotyped as aggressive dogs. The reason I chose this topic is that I am going to school to be a veterinarian, and animals have always been a passion of mine. I have owned a pit bull for a few years now, and never have never seen any signs of aggression in him. Many other people own pit bulls, and have never seen their dogs be harmful to the people or other animals too. Unfortunately, many people in the world today consider pit bulls to be the most aggressive breed of dogs on the planet. Pit bulls owners and potential owners of this amazing breed are in awe of this controversy, because we see no wrong in our pets. Although, there have been numerous attacks on humans and other animals by
Having a pit bull as a pet is like having any other pet, most pit bulls are warm, cuddly and very enthusiastic. They tend to provide security, comfort, and studies have shown that pit bulls have an extreme and extensive psychological and therapeutic effects on humans of every age. Yet in over 1,000 US cities and more than a dozen of counties within 36 states it is illegal to own this specific breed and they have a “breed-specific legislation”. Pit bulls were not born vicious or aggressive; they are raised to behave this way by irresponsible people. Although others state that studies have proven that pit bulls carry this aggression in their DNA.
On June twentieth, 2014, Charlotte Alter, a Times News author discharged an article titled "The Problem With Pit Bulls". This article was in light of an episode where a three year old young lady and her family were requested to leave a KFC eatery, since her "face was disturbing clients". Three year old Victoria Wilcher built up these wounds since "Her granddad's three pit bulls battered the little child until the point that a large portion of her face was incapacitated and she lost the utilization of one of her eyes". Charlotte Alter utilized Victoria's episode to contend that pit bulls should either all be cleaned, prohibited or controlled on the grounds that they are "normally" brutal and unpredictable. She upheld her contention with tenable
Pit Bulls have many stereotypes put on them that have gone on for far too long. Those in society who believe these certain stereotypes to be true, need to understand and realize they are not. Stereotypes such as, that Pit Bulls are naturally aggressive, that it does not matter how you raise them that no matter what they will always hold and show aggressive acts and behavior. Another stereotype is that Pit Bulls have special mechanisms such as a locking jaw. From both of those stereotypes comes a media bias on the breed that creates more and more stereotypes.
Intro Many people don’t quite understand the “Pit Bull” but soon you will understand. Pit bull is not a breed. It is a generic term often used to describe all dogs with similar traits and characteristics often known to the public as “Pit Bulls”. This essay is for any owners of “pit bull” type dogs such as American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and pit mixes.
The pit bulls are one of the most world’s misleading dogs. Many of people think of them as a mean and aggressive dog. That is when they are forced to do dogs fights and only when they a protecting their territory. Some people think that the pit bull breed shouldn’t even be a pet. They can be loving and caring.
People that believe that pit bulls are aggressive dogs, you should look at a well-trained pit bull and an untrained dog and see that any dog can be aggressive without training and love. Any dog can be aggressive and mean by just how you raise the dog, if the dog is abused then the dog will be scared and if the dog is loved and cared for the dog is very loving and loyal. When dogs get sick or hurt they don 't like to be played with, they might even bite a person, they get mean because they are hurting and weak, so there instincts tells them to protect themselves. People think that pit bulls are a breed that will most likely bite people, but that 's not true, the American Veterinary Medical Association found that no dog is more dangerous than
Across the nation animal shelters are flooded with unwanted or homeless dogs, 74% of them being pitbulls. It is strongly believed, by some, that animals are not born mean they are made mean. Many people like to jump to the conclusion that Pitbulls and similar dogs, are naturally mean, but in reality they make the best family pets if treated
In the media and the pit bull, James Cross said “News outlets consistently tell animal control officers that they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pit bull”. If the media is only shown how bad Pit bulls are then they think they are aggressive dogs and other dogs are great. Pit bulls are not aggressive, the media makes it look that way so don't believe
Before getting into persuading readers; they should know why pit bull breeds get such a bad rap, as well as where the breed came from. Today’s pit bull is a descendant of the original English bull -baiting dog (Position). These dogs were bred to bite and hold bulls, bears, and other larger animals around the face and
Now people want to ban the all Pit Bull mixes or any dog that could be mistaken for a Pit Bull. But by using breed specific legislation would be wrong because you would be taking innocent dogs away from their loving family. So I say Pit bulls should not be banned for their behavior when they are trained to be aggressive and short tempered. The American Pit Bull Terrier is well known for superior intelligence, strength and loyalty. in recent years this breed has been mis advertised as violent and vicious.
Allowing people to have pit bulls in their own care is question for many (Time). People should be able to own a pitbull for many reasons. Pit bulls are great dogs because they are good with most people, especially children. They are very obedient and some respond to commands if told to do so. They are also very helpful at times and easy to train.
If they pick on one, they pick on all. James Cross also said, “ Even if later later revealed that the dog was not a Pit bull, the damage is already done. The idea of Pit bulls being dangerous is in the public's eyes.” James Cross even said, “ People are terrified and have even stopped going to people’s houses, thanks to the media.” Instead of the bad things Pit bulls do we need to focus on the good too!
“There are about 78 million dogs in the United States, meaning less than 17% of dogs bite less than 1.4% and kill less than 0.00001% of the US population.” states Lindsy Marchello, Brian Hare, Vannessa Woods, and United States Burau. It is important to know this because discrimination should not happen against dogs just because they are at the top of the list for being brutal. People need to remember that not all of them are like that. Not all pit bulls are mean.
More than likely the people that get this type of dog would just train a different breed of dog such as german shepherds to do the same thing therefore, “banning pit bulls would make no progress”. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/should-pit-bulls-be-banned. “If it was determined that pit bulls were 5 times more likely to attack than any other dogs, that could mean that 5 out of 1 million pit bulls will attack in their lifetime instead of 1 out of 1 million. The point is the evidence that shows pit bulls are more likely to attack than other dogs is misinterpreted to mean that they are likely to attack”. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/should-pit-bulls-be-banned.
Do you have a love of dogs? If so, then you will be very interested in this essay. I have conducted some research and even though I am not a dog lover I do not feel that all the pit bulls in Texas should be banned. The pit bulls only know what their owners teach them. Texas pit bull owners need to teach them to be good.
