Each topic we went over she would have a small meltdowns ] What was the most rewarding aspect of working with your client? [Actually talking to a real person about what we have worked on this semester. Talking to classmates is different than with a person who has little understanding of the field.] What was the most surprising aspect of the experience? [I was surprised by how hard it can be to talk to people about money even if you already know the person you are talking too. Money is always a personal issue even if you trust a person.] What made …show more content…
[I noticed depending on how I asked a question the client was more or less willing to answer a question. I could ask a question she might not like to answer but if I reframed the question she was less hesitant to answer.] As a young professional, what do you need to improve? [Figuring out how to ask questions without being blunt. I need to practice with developing a style of asking without interrogating.] Reflections – Client What was the most frustrating aspect of the experience? [It was not that frustrating, he needs to practice his style of question. It took him a little while to ask the next question after I responded.] What was the most rewarding aspect of the experience? [ Talking to my son about his future career and feeling like he actually enjoying what he is learning] What was the most surprising aspect of the experience? [ I expected him to advise more but as we spoke he listened more and spoke only to state ideas] What, if anything, did you learn? [I can’t say I learned that much in our conversation. The results of the quiz were not shocking but did confirm some of my beliefs. I did learn that I use my indecisiveness to avoid making important
I would have asked the client questions one by one, instead of asking all the questions at once. 4. I would have sat the client down, and asked her if there was anything else I can do to help her? 5. I would have told the client about the other possible resources that we have available.
“Tell me the story of my life as you know it,” I asked my dad knowing that I needed as much as I could get from him. Of course, against my dismay, he started with, “Chase Barclay was born in Houston, Texas on a warm humid day in January 2002.” “I need more information, some really deep stuff,” I said in a rather upset tone since I thought he understood what I was doing with what he said. “Chase 's middle name, Woodrow, is from his grandfather, who was named for President Woodrow Wilson. From the start, we knew Chase was very intelligent.
This experience has helped him to grow into an insightful young
I hoped to make a lasting impression on the children I encountered during my time there but what I didn’t foresee, was the lasting impression they left on me. All of that factored into not only my decision making process, but also why I firmly believe in this organization and everything it has to offer.
The Virtual Child assignment was a new world for me especially because I have never so much as changed a diaper. I learned how some situations for parents are tough like balancing work and children especially when you want save money to settle down in a home. Overall this experience gave me first hand experience in making the tough decisions and watching children develop in all aspects: language, cognitive, emotional, etc. The program was beneficial because it taught me how a little decision can affect your child’s upbringing. Lastly the program taught me firsthand how child think and act as a result of them trying to learn as much from the surrounding
I learned how to adapt to the individual needs of students to provide them the best education. Like students with a communication disorder, many of my students would shy away from activities or tasks because of obstacles. Through these experiences, I watched my students gain the confidence to participate in activities and excel in academics to become successful individuals. As a future Speech Language Pathologist, many qualities that I possess can be improved by furthering my education.
Therefore, I should look to other too in the fields that I would want to go into and get firsthand knowledge from them. People around me have a lot of knowledge to pass on if I simply ask and man of them are willing and want to help younger students learn. Overall the experience was very eye opening and I plan to do more in the
As a general rule the quicker you get involved in your de-escalation attempts, the better chance you will have at success. You should avoid minimizing the client’s feelings. At the same time you need to act like you have been here before. Do not act shocked to what might be bothering the client.
This job really taught me about the importance of children having a routine to follow as well as the impact teachers can have on a child’s life. After my first year in college, I realized that I wanted to gain more experience with children of all ages. Shortly after,
However, the most important thing to remember is to use questioning appropriately. Improper or insincere questioning of either kind can lead to the client feeling like they are on trial; consequently placing them on the defensive. Or worse yet, ending the session and never returning (Ivey, Ivey, & Zalaquett, 2014, p.120). Beginning with the advantages of open questionings we see that they promote an environment of free expression which often leads to more creative talking accompanied by a fullness of detail (Ivey, Ivey, & Zalaquett, 2014, pp.
Specifically, I found it extremely hard to “quiet myself” and let the client really express his point of view. One of my coping strategies for self-perceived awkward situations is to talk a lot and carried over to my interviewing techniques. Whenever I would be asking Ian a question, I would try to explain my question with more questions. For example, whenever I inquiring about Ian’s relationship with his family, I asked him how his relationship was with his sister, who he was closet with, and if he liked his sister all at once, thus he only was able to answer one of these questions due to probably feeling overwhelmed. I did not really provide the needed calm and silent environment to allow him to answer questions one at a time.
Additionally, as a counselor, it is important to be genuine with whatever feedbacks one presents to the patient and what one believes regarding the situation of the client. Mrs. Perez believes the more authentic and genuine he is with her patients, the more help he will be able to offer the clients. As a counselor, it is important to have a fine and professional interaction with one 's client but boundaries must be maintained. Through this, a counselor is able to demonstrate their focus on helping the patients by showing the client that they understand their problems. It also through such engagements that counselor is able to use the non-judgmental attention that does not require words for illustration in helping the patient.
Firstly, I need to identify the causes and formation of the difficulty situation of my client. I should not involve my own personal emotions when analysing the situation. Next, clarification of the situation is essential. The clients should figure out themselves on how to face the situation. An effective counsellor listen more than talks, and what they do say gives the client a sense of being heard and understood.
Over the past one and half month, the class of PDE 502 (Counselling and Career Education) has taught me some major lessons for life in dealing with the clients in response to their emotional needs. The role of a counsellor is not unlike that of a friend where by it is nurtured by being in each other’s company, talking over everyday issues and sharing feelings. However, what sets a counsellor apart is their experience and the ability to apply counselling theories and techniques to assist people in gaining awareness, insight and explore ways of solving their own issues.
Having the chance to experience this Mock Job Interview open my eyes up to a lot of things. Being a Roanoke Valley Early College these are some of the great opportunities that you will receive.
