A New enthusiastic employee starting in new position, he has High motivation, willing, but has low skills & inexperienced Behavior of an S1 Leader :
• Demonstrate , do the task in front of him
• Explain how things can be done/ Induction plan
• Set Goals , set expectations , deadline and timeframe
• Organize the work in advance , prepare the tools needed for demonstration and structure
• Provide Structure
• Control each step in progress
• Supervise Closely
• Evaluate : looking at the results and then giving feedback

Tarek, the shop manager has noticed this behavior; he was thinking of laying him off and was discussing this matter with the higher management Anjum. Anjum had a different opinion, he advised Tarek to start coaching Nabil. But Tarek’s answer was that coaching is very time wasting and does not believe in this process. He actually stated that Nabil is not worth the effort of trying to coach him.
In the below I will:
- Identify the development level of Nabil and explain my choice and state which leadership style should be used in this case.
- I will try to convince Tarek with my choice by listing what could be the benefits of using this leadership style for him as a manager and for Nabil as an employee.
Nabil his Development Level is D2 in which he has low skill and low motivation however he is gaining experience. So the manager should use the S2 as leadership style where he has to coach, give support and high directing.
