Many people come over and just start working but reading this book make me believe that there is people out there that will take advantage of illegal immigrants. People like El diablo and John Pickle are evil people and seek out to take advantage of immigrants that are looking for work. This book has changed my view on modern day slavery. I have learned about modern day slavery in my other classes but I haven’t learned this amount of details.
Another main point of this book kind of dealt with race as well because the Mexicans were seen as inferior to the Whites as well as the other races that were there in Arizona. It seemed to be a problem that the Mexican families were trying to adopt White children and it turned into a big issue of why they can’t keep the children. I felt that the author proved her point in writing this book because she explained all of the things that the Nuns went through with these children and how they were nearly killed for what they thought might be a kind act in God’s eyes. The orphans from New York entered into a racial predicament, which eventually got worse by the Anglo women. They were the ones who did not agree with the nuns giving children to Mexican families, and these Anglo women told their husbands and they had a vigilante resolution.
The format of this book is a letter to Coates’s son and it is divided into three parts. Although this is meant to be a letter to his son, Coates uses some very complex and advanced language that can be hard to understand for a fifteen-year-old boy. However, I think the way this book was written definitely helps get the powerful message across. The personal aspect helps understand how gender, class, and race impact everyday experiences. Coates tells his son many different stories, some in which are very harsh.
In the poem “Woodchucks” by Maxine Kumin, how does the speaker strengthen a sense that everybody has a murderous intent deep inside? Throughout the essay, you will see that Kumin introduces the speaker as a frustrated farmer trying to get rid of a problem she is going through. The speaker tries to kill the woodchuck by successfully gassing them. The speaker is frustrated and angry furthermore because his solution is not working in order to protect his garden. Down the line in the poem the farmer finds another means on how to kill the woodchucks and feel like this is the only option to get rid of them, however, wants the woodchucks to not feel the pain.
The struggles that Barbara experienced allowed her to key into what it was really like for people working these types of jobs. It was impossible for these people to live a manageable, healthy lifestyle based on the income they were bringing
I chose to read chapter 11, “Poverty and homelessness” Because when i look at homeless people it touches my heart to see human beings like me living in a poor condition and can't afford anything for themselves. I get emotional and think about how society can help the poor a lot more so they won't be in the street. The number of people living in poverty and homelessness keeps rising up. I think Government and society should prioritize this issue because living poverty and homelessness brings up problems like learning disabilities, health problems, social dysfunction, and significantly more.
I know how hard is it to find a decent job. Many occupations wont take applicants unless they have experience in a demanding and skilled environment. If a ready to work American went out to find a job, they would be out of luck because they don’t have the needed requirements and will never have them because they can’t get hired, in other words it’s a new ending loop of not having the requirements that will never be gained in the first place. After reading this novel, I also understood the true meaning of American poverty and what is it to be “poor”. The novel also revealed to me the difficulty of the less fortunate, and the free flowing lives of the people who didn’t get thrown in the never-ending loop of poverty and despair.

although Lourdes reached a rough period in her life while prostituting she still remained focused about providing for a better life for children as well as herself. She used her strengths to overcome these challenges and did not let her environment change the mindset of why she came to America. Under these circumstances life can be hard and Lourdes seems like she needs help from a social worker or local agency she can trust that would not continue to take her money. Lourdes should research these agencies first before deciding to use them because of her past experiences with fraudulent agencies.
Social inequality is overlooked by many. It affects so many of us, though we have yet to realize how extreme it is. Lee argues in this novel how much stress social inequalities put on the black and white races throughout the 1930s. Frankenstein Written by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein features a creation gone awry in a classic, poetic piece of literature. Shelley paints a dark, sinister book which hopes to expose humanity as bleak and exclusive. Starting off, a man named Robert Walton sends his sister Margaret several letters detailing his adventure as the captain of a ship sailing towards the North Pole. Walton notes that he met a man by the name of Victor Frankenstein, whom he found stranded after attempting to catch another sledge pulled by dogs on a stretch of ice. Once the crew of the ship rescues Frankenstein, he details his life over the past (time interval) to Walton as he recovers from ailments only partially suffered from his encounter with the frigid weather.
Introduction In this reflective essay I will reflect upon the course based on the assignments and projects I have accomplished this semester.
