The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The Constitution protects the rights for an American citizen in the United States to bear arms to provide security. Throughout American history, guns have been used to protect families, whether used in war or for protection in the home. Although the amendment was put in place to protect the American people, disasters such as school shootings, assassinations and bloody massacres prompted questions to come up regarding restraints on the law, and what kind of people are allowed to own guns, and be trusted with them. …show more content…

Other Americans who support the law believe that if there has not been a problem, and that they own their arms legally, then they should not be taken away, and that they should be allowed to freely keep their arms in their home. The Constitution is a body of fundamental principles that a state should be governed by. Within the Constitution are amendments, which are articles that state and discuss laws that can be changed. Gun control, or regulation of firearms, refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms in order to control crime and reduce the harmful effects of violence. Many have different beliefs on how controlled gun control is, and the debate grows more every time a disaster occurs.
