Simone Biles an African American teenager, has done more than anyone has expected. She was one of the few women to represent the United States of America in 2016 at the Olympics. Since Black History Month is approaching it is time to celebrate the accomplishment of our fellow African Americans. Simone Biles is not only a inspiration to other young gymnasts, but also to me. Simone Biles has faced a lot of tribulations growing up as a child but has not let that stop her from becoming greatness. Simone Biles was born on March 14,1997 in Columbus, Ohio to her grandparents Nelle and Ronald Biles. She was adopted to her grandparents due to her mother going through the struggle of substance abuse. She has three siblings: Ronald II, Adam and Adria. Biles hometown is Spring, Texas where she has graduated the class of 2015, she was home schooled. Simone enjoys hanging out with friends and going shopping and most importantly, gymnastics. Simone Biles was asked how did she get into gymnastics; her response was “I went to Bannon's on a day care field trip. While there I imitated the other gymnasts, and Coach Ronnie noticed. Janet Fay Collins was the Metropolitan Opera's first African-American Prima Ballerina who broke the color barrier, paving the way for African-American dancers to come after her. Janet was born on March 2nd, 1917 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of four years old she moved with her family to Los Angeles, California. There, she was enrolled into a Catholic Community Center for dance training. Her family did not have money to pay for Janet’s training.

The reason for this is almost 100 colleges in the US have gymnastics teams. Not only can you continue to do gymnastics and do what you love, you can even earn a helpful scholarship! As a result, if you go to college and get on the gymnastics team, you can make friends quickly because you have something in common with your teammates.
