People love a good fairytale story. Disney as a company has made insane amounts of money on that fact. The simplest way of telling these stories are through movies. Many people, like myself, love these films and don’t dig exceptionally deep into them. Other’s however, can’t or won’t see past the times.
Disney, why is it so attractive to children? Parents thought of this question before, but didn’t find any answer. Many young children grew up watching Disney television shows, films, and even buying Disney cartoon characters. For instance Walt Disney began his company to share love and spread fun for both children and adults. However when gender equality, oppression, and advertising become an issue and fear over the population over those years, Disney has been hit with various claims of taking the difference between male and female, focus desires, and attracting children with amazing advertisements.
There has been a great deal of speculations in today’s society that each individual will become the product of their environment. One’s surroundings whether good or bad are what shapes them into becoming a role model for future generations. Although growing up in a broken home without one or both parents makes it difficult for a child to learn how to act and approach life it is still likely that they can take what they have learned from their childhood and turn it into something extraordinary. It is possible to break past the stereotype that they are a product of their environment by using past experiences to revolutionize their future. Disney movies although very popular among young children, play a very important role in displaying gender stereotypes. Walt Disney has been dominating the world of children movies for decades (Lamb & Brown, 2007). Through the extracts from Beauty and the Beast and Brave, gender roles are easily constructed. Belle from Beauty and the Beast is a very stereotypical representation of how a ‘beautiful’ woman should be. To begin with, her name itself translates into ‘Beauty.’
I remembered when I was young, there were plenty of movie that has girls play dolls and boys play football. These movies were popular among children that day until now, girls were meant to be soft and boys were meant to be powerful and strong. Then one day, I’ve watched a movie that has a girl play in the football team and I were surprised because it’s the first time that I’ve seen a movie that shows girl can be both femininity and masculinity. This movie has a huge impact on young children behaviour and has influenced children in constructing gender roles in the society. ‘Little Giants’ has shown the characteristic of the main character to be abnormal and changing the gender stereotypes in young audiences’ perspective.
This article is about an analyzation of how all the Disney Princesses demonstrate some type of stereotypical representation on gender. This study was made by a group of professors such as Professor England from the department of Family and Human Development at Arizona State University, Professor Descartes from the Division of Sociology and Family Studies at Brescia University of college, and Professor Collier-Meek from the Department of Educational Psychology. Their study proves that Disney Princesses do have an impact on how girls behave by including another study by Oliver and Green. It was discovered that animations made for children tend to target a specific gender and that children are aware of the stereotypical gender behavior presented.
People are not born with their own opinions, rather their opinions are created and shaped through what they see and hear from sources that they consider trustworthy. This why most popular media mostly showcase ideas and opinions that the average person finds the most acceptable. When it comes to stereotypes, they originate from those in power who creates an overgeneralization that ends up repeated countless times that it eventually begins to be considered a fact. Authors such as David Brooks assert that women are better students than men and that men are more aggressive, an assertion I disagree with. Stereotypes dealing with gender like the one promoted by David Brooks and studied by other authors are created through the influence popular media has on society in order to manipulate people to think a certain way and create conflict.

These studies suggest that children observe gender stereotypes at an early age unintentionally. Since children’s brains are constantly soaking in new information about the world around them, they have to do so in a way that they are seemingly most comfortable. Studies show that children are most comfortable learning from people who are actively in their lives and attractive movie and TV
DISNEY SEXISM In society, there are gender roles which put each sex in stereotypical figures. These roles affect the way how we speak, dress and act. In general, women expected to behave feminine such as being polite and fragile and on the other hand men are expected to be aggressive and stronger. All these roles are over exaggerated in Disney 's women and men figures. When we look at the society, children are the ones who are more likely to being manipulated by elements such as media.
