As I, Raja Muda, stood on a hill of Singapura watching the mercilessly flaming globe gradually rising, I recalled the story which my grandfather, Sri Tri Buana, the “Lord of the Three Worlds”, used to recount when I was younger. It was an account of how he found Singapura. According to him, it took place in 1299, a little after he had left Bentan for Tanjong Bemian. I closed my eyes as I delved back into my memory of how he always narrated his story… I was hunting in the woods of Tanjong Bemian with all my men when I spotted a deer eating grass. Signalling to the men, we approached it slowly and carefully. In a swift move, I stabbed its hind. However, it seems that I did not injure it sufficiently as the deer fled. With it’s injury and all …show more content…
With that, we commenced our journey to the land called Temasek. As soon as we sailed to the open sea, the clouds thicken and the thunder roared. Not long after, it started to pour. So strong were the wind that the rain droplets felt like pebbles as they smashed onto our faces. Furthermore, the sea morphed into mountains of angry waves, rocking the boat tremendously such that it was on the verge of capsizing. Since none of us have experienced a storm as violent as this, everyone started to panic. With the thunder clashing and the wind wailing, screams and shouts of the men and women were drowned. Oh no… Look what I have done. I should have listened to Indra Bopal’s advice! I blamed myself. It is all my fault for putting all of them through this. I cannot let them die here. I must think of something! Seeing that the ship was sinking, an idea came to my mind. Grabbing onto the railing with my dear life, I competed against the hollering storm and screamed to the nearest men, “Discard everything you see! Lighten the …show more content…
My crown!” I exclaimed, as I threw my crown overboard, fervently hoping that it would work. “O mighty Lord of the Sea! It is I, Sri Tri Buana! May I impudently ask for you to grace your presence and save me and my men from this merciless storm? I will do anything that you wish in return,” I beseeched. To my utmost surprise, the storm subsided and the waves calmed down immediately, almost as if the commotion before was a lie. “We survived!” everyone cheered, flabbergasted yet relieved. I slumped against the railings and heaved a huge sigh of relief, glad that it all went well. Now, all I have to worry about is what the Sea King would want in return, but that is another story. Not long after the arduous journey, we finally arrived at our destination – Temasek. Once again I was filled with awe. How could the sand be so sacredly white? I wondered. With every step that I took, I could feel the fine and soft grains massaging my feet as they sunk ever so slightly beneath me, comforting my exhausted and aching soles. Relishing the gentle wind caressing my face, I walked along the shore barefooted, leaving a fresh trail of footprints behind me. This, I thought, may be a great place for me to
It started to all look the same after a while. The same hotel buildings over and over again. The sound of the waves like clockwork beating on the sand. My feet raced across the grainy substance below me, jumping from one sand bar to the next. The tide was out, creating little islands for the perfect chance to bound from one to another.
Above the rungs on the little lifeboat I see four figures a zebra, an orangutan, a ravenous hyena and my owner 's son- Pi. I lie and stay still under the rung of the lifeboat as the sun beats intensely on the boat. Pi looks afraid as the hyena is growling viciously. Out of nowhere, the hyena sprints and mangles the zebra until it lies there dead, but this hyena was thirst for blood and it devours the orangutan as well covering the boat in the metallic blood. Knowing I could not survive of this boat alone, I have to protect Pi.
These scared, unprepared men also faced death due to the ocean that served as several of the men’s graves. The conditions these sailors met in water were awful , due to the high
Waterfalls started to form and fall, and soon enough, we were soaked. Melissa and I started to rush down, scared, as our dads and my sister continued to walk. “Dad!” I yelled, “hurry up!” They just kept walking.
In conclusion, the abominable, execrable weather instigated all the hardship during this day. As the snow swarmed the plane gloating, as it deliberately tried to bring it down, which it accomplished. Also, the water vexed over and over again to sweep away the people and take their lives. Notwithstanding, the wind participated in the destruction the plane and death of passengers. All in all, the elements did everything they could to hurt the plane and
However, the world would trick the men into thinking that help has come. That the ounces of help for them would be swept away by the ocean waves. The men live in a world that did not consider them, the lives of the men as important. Though a couple of the men on the boat would try to reassure themselves that help would come.
The crew and citizens aboard the Titian took a chance in sailing on the Titanic. The Titanic was very risky because it was not fully safe with not enough lifeboats for the number of people that were on it. The Titanic also went through a very risky area with tons of icebergs because they thought it was unsinkable. The lookouts were supposed to be extra carefully watched. It states this in the text when it says, “They were the “eyes of the ship,” and on this particular night Fleet had been warned to watch especially for icebergs.”
We gathered our food supply, along with our sacrifices, and the oar and headed towards the boat that would care us to the land people that know nothing of the sea. We went down to the shore and pushed off once we were all settled in the boat. I waved goodbye to my family that I am determined to see again even if I have to go through hell. A month into our journey we saw the mainland of Aetolia.
However, this was a fatal choice. If she had lived, the social tide would have taken her in time. Had she not been literally carried away by the ocean, society’s norms would have drowned and suffocated her, leaving her desires unsatisfied and her life empty. As the waves proved to be too much for her, giving herself to the sea in a show of strength and independence was her final defiance of social
Alexander inhaled the salty-ocean air, as he made his way to the bow of the tiny boat. Each step he took the boat groaned in detest. When he reached the bow his gaze fell upon the new world. His eyes were full of hope and promise. “ I 'm almost there.”
The humid air was exhausting, we drudged our bodies to the beach and slipped on the waiters and went into the water. The cool temperature of the water quickly cooled the rubber of the waders, refreshing us instantly. We hastily exchanged splashes, soaking each other instantly. We raced to the shore choking on lake water and laughing endlessly. After a short break, Mima grabbed the rake, walked out into the water and tossed it into the weeds.
The sun was scorching out heat as it was warming up the city. On the other side the ocean was all admirable dark blue. Waves were shattering surfers. But there was something special in the ocean.
Disappointment. Betrayal. Deceived. All these terms are common themes in the writing of several immigrants during their journey to America. After reading many personal accounts of immigrants and learning about their expeditions to America, it became evident it is not as joyous a ride as many make it seem.
Children faces are bright red with tears rolling down their cheeks, while some were scream crying. As being an eighth grader, I am not ready for this type of situation. Scared to my core, I am actually thinking that the boat is going to sink and I am going to DIE TODAY. The captain is the only one on the second level of the ship, while most of the passengers are down on the bottom floor hurling everywhere. I finally could not take the sights and sounds of people puking so I closed my eyes and plugged my ears with two pointer fingers for most of the way back.
The Storm Lightning crashes overhead as I race back into the house, dripping wet. I was just returning back from an adventure in the woods. The storm was unexpected, even the forecasters had never expected it. Luckily, I managed to make it back inside safely.
