As climate change becomes a bigger issue, many individuals find themselves terrified at the thought of a destroyed, uninhabitable earth. These fearful emotions often lead to bleak outlooks on the future, causing people lose hope in the human race’s ability to improve. To combat this, head of the Climate Reality Project, Al Gore, gave a lecture at TED2016 on why people need to be optimistic about climate change. In this lecture, Al Gore makes an effective argument for a positive environmental outlook by supporting his talk with facts that appeal to the audience 's emotions, while also demonstrating his credibility. Al Gore begins his talk with a bit of humor to lighten the mood.
Burning fossil fuels is harming planet Earth, without the existence of this planet no human would have lived the life we are taking for granted. Planet Earth is providing us with scarce resources some are renewable and some are non-renewable. Fossil fuels are non-renewable and are very useful however they are causing pollution, which is resulting in Global warming. Burning fossil fuels can be done in more than one way for example the cars we drive everyday to get us transported or all the industries that are releasing smoke from their chimneys. Industry owners are against the fact of burning less fossil fuel, as they will lose profit.
However, the fact that determinists also believe that there is no such things as human responsibility makes it difficult for us to accept. The logic may be adequate in the theory, yet it goes against the human disposition to assign blame. The next step would be to deny regret since the individual had no choice in doing what he did. The theory seems to have put the 'human' out of 'human action', leaving humans as some sort of pawns of destiny. Moreover, our 'actions' might also lack our 'doing something' since they are just results of conditions and events (Solomon, 2002).
Even if a nuclear weapon were never again exploded over a city, there are intolerable effects from the production, testing, and deployment of nuclear arsenals that are experienced as an ongoing personal and community catastrophe by many people around the globe. The argument that only rogue nations would have nuclear weapons is completely invalid because why one thinks other nations are building nukes? Because the United States has
Recently, we can read plenty of articles from newspaper warning about the global warming, because pollution gets worse every day. However, there is a huge threat to the world just after pollution but it’s rarely mentioned which is called desertification. According to UNEP, 35% of the world’s land surface is currently at risk and more than 20 million hectares are reduced annually to near or complete uselessness. This is a warning from nature if we don’t have any action to prevent the desertification. Desertification is no longer a new word invented by scientist, it has become a global issue nowadays which threats numerous countries and cities worldwide, especially in the poor countries that are affected heavily.
The movie “The Day After Tomorrow” depicts a scenario in a future where humanity does not curb its pollutive ways, paving the way for a global climate shift and an apocalyptic ice age that freezes many great cities. That might be a fictitious reality, but one that is seemingly possible given the way we are destroying the environment. In recent years, there have been increasing discussion about ocean acidification, which Feely referred to as “global warming’s evil twin”. Acidification affects elementary process related to composition and role of marine ecosystem, causing long term impacts on humans (Doney, 2009). Despite the potential seriousness of ocean acidification, little attempts have been made because of the lack of motivation, awareness, capability and diverging interest.
You might be thinking why global warming. It has nothing to do well if you think about it, in the old times it was cool and warm but now it is dry and hot. imagine yourself in a room no air conditioner no fan it will be nice for you to live in but if you turn on the heater it will be super hot. you will not like to live in a hot place. But if you turn on the fan it will be cold this is what is happening to the habitats of animals they are changing climate.
Contrast this with the environmental movement efforts to achieve sustainable life and peace. Environmental protection agencies, such as the EPA, are open institutions that seek to educate the public on the dangers of the environment while the military are secretive institutions, for this reason environmentalists argue that the two are fundamentally incompatible. Militaries are arguably the largest institutional cause of environmental degradation in the world. (Collins, 2010)Wherever there’s been war there’s been considerable damage to the environment. Whether it’s the use of nuclear weapons on Japan, the draining of
Just forget about planet, radiation is closer to people than they thought. "Most people are totally unaware of the fact that the human body itself is naturally radioactive" (Comby, 2008, para.18) To sum up, I agree with the author on each viewpoints, the pollution due to fossil oils, wide spearing nuclear energy and renewable energy resources is necessary and there is a big bias on people about nuclear, because of unknown things about the nuclear. Nuclear energy is such a new source for mankind. It's hard to overcome the bias about it. Eventually when it happens, and nuclear is controlled well, world will reach "not only clean, but also safe, reliable, durable and competitive energy" (Comby, 2008, para.
Humans should change their daily activities since the earth is injured from carbon and methane spike. There are statements that say global warming isn’t the only and not the biggest risk we have in society today; however it’s not supported by scientific facts. In reality one of the biggest issues we have is global warming and its coming from an everyday use of cars and trucks. Cars give out big amount of carbon dioxide and millions of cars are used every day. This spikes carbon in the atmosphere and makes green house gas levels go up.
