Having free tuition for college means that more people who cannot afford it now, would end up going. This is a good thing in terms that more people are getting a good education and continuing their educational careers to hopefully obtain good job, but it also decrease the value of a college education. If more people are able to earn degrees, it devalues them. Finding jobs even with their qualifications would be difficult (Should college be free?). This idea would also apply to the students, mainly student-athletes, that work for multiple years to try to perfect their skill and obtain full or half scholarship.
As Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill state in their paper “Should Everyone Go to College?” , “study after study reminds us that higher education is is one of the best investments we can make and President Obama has called it ‘an economic imperative’” (208). Time after time the youth are being doctrinated that attending college is best investment that one can make for their future. Studies done have proven that attending college not only open opportunities but that they also offer social benefits.
Money is the basis of living , even people with lower income degrees could support themselves before the cost of tuition went up drastically. However, when you add student loans in the mix , debt over takes the standard of living. Ellison has heavy focus on this because he wants to highlight a big reason why free tuition can be beneficial for people in the long run. He believes if free tuition was put in place , every college graduate, lower income or higher income, will be able to live within their
Starting in the 1990’s, the U.K. had tuition free of pay, but over time, student demand rose causing the government to include fees (Kelly). These fees have been raised to the maximum and there has even been a student-loan program created to help pay for the tuitions (Kelly). If this plan for college failed in the United Kingdom, then why would it work in America. There are so many cons to these college plans which hurt both the taxpayer and the student. What is best for America is to not put these plans in
You don't have to know right away, but don't miss out on the value that college can bring you. In the article "Actually, College Is Very Much Worth It" by Andrew J. Rotherham, the author states,"College graduates are also more likely to be in jobs with better benefits, further widening the divide" (Rotherham 80). Having a better job and a better salary is good in many ways as to being able to pay for more like a car, house, and maybe kids. Money is a struggle for a lot of people and if you go to college you get an advantage to getting more money.
In a way, college athletes are already getting paid. Universities should not have to hand out more money to their athletes just to satisfy them. It would be unfair to other non-athlete students if college athletes were to receive payment for play and give athletic scholarships. Non-athlete students don’t get paid to do their school work. These kids are college athletes, they are not professional athletes so they should not be paid to play.
What college athletes don’t understand is that they are getting exposure to getting a professional contract. If that doesn’t work they will always have a college education to lean back on. They give generous scholarships to top student athletes receive, covering their tuition and most
As we all know, college can be very expensive. With the scholarships and grants, college student-athletes can go to school for free and get their day-to-day needs such as food, housing, clothes, etc. Ackerman and Scotts, purpose is to show that college is a learning experience and with the help of college sports, the student-athletes will have a chance to grow and be successful in life rather than being exploited. However, critics believe that college student-athletes should be paid salary, like professional athletes, because they want people to see the “athletes are the rule, not the expectation” (par 11). They want the audience to think that it’s a rule for student-athletes to go play pro after two years, will no expectation.
For those who have graduated from high school and will continue with their higher education, many if not all of these students will have to pay out of pocket for college. Most of students think that if they graduate from college or a four-year university they will have a chance to work in the professional field rather than work for minimum wage. It is an opportunity for anyone, particularly those who have low wages, to earn a degree and make more money. In the article “Expanding Community College Access” from The New York Times, President Obama states that tuition for community college should be free, because the American workforce is not educated enough for the global and national workplace. The presiding evidence and statements from experts
There are crisis going up for student loans and it is making a big impact in the world’s economy as well. However, there are some pretty good reasons student loans are actually good. For instance, student loans can actually pay off college tuition and school fees while in school. It’s a great process which help students get through school without money issues and worrying about how school is going to get paid, that’s were student loans come in. Let’s say that a student wouldn’t be eligible for financial aid and doesn’t have a job to support him or herself for school, that’s also another reason why student loans could be very good for that certain student.
Do you plan on going to college? Should college be free? Right now, colleges are having people pay a lot of money to there, and others don’t have to pay a cent to go there because of scholarships. Whether it sports or projects that have gotten people scholarships; others have to pay. If it was free, people wouldn’t worry about paying, students would work harder to get accepted into big schools, and it would give people in a lower class have more opportunities.
To be more marketable to new students, colleges are getting more activities and taking on a “country club culture with valet parking, gourmet meals, and dry cleaning.” (Campo) This has caused college tuition increases for new students to pay for these expensive additions or repairs. College tuition has risen quickly in recent years which has restricted people from pursuing higher education and left college students to pay
My second reasoning for changing the funding and time a person can use it is to make it more beneficial to those who have it. Obviously, the program isn’t for everyone and was meant for only the ones that needed the extra incentive and help for college. By limiting the amount of people using it to lower incomes and increasing the amount given has been shown to not only increase graduation rate but enrollment rates as well. Along with this putting a cap on it after four years is better in many ways. First this allows it to be able to more of an incentive to graduate on time for any given program.
Though, you might not be able to make much more per hour, than say an employee with a high school education. But, college allows you to get the job before the applicant without the degree does. To me, a job is better than no job, and I view college as job
The “C Rule” The “C rule “ would be a huge academic benefit to Webb City High School. The “C rule” is a rule that says any student who participates in an extracurricular activity has to maintain at least a C average in each of their required classes. With the “C rule” being enforced it would motivate students to do better in school and to try harder. Students grades would rise and although some students would not be able to participate in their activities anymore it would still be beneficial for the students who actually care about school .
