Moreover, it can even affect the entire school population and create an environment of fear which may disrupt academic learning (Whitted & Dupper, 2005). Victims can be upset, afraid, ashamed and embarrassed about going to school. The signs may not be visible if the adolescent can manage the aftermath of bullying. The incidents might take place without parents
Students have mainly reported incidents of hate speech about their race, next ethnicity, then sexual orientation. This can affect school performance, and kids are more likely to express fear at school. Hate is making the already tough school system, even harder. Hate crimes have increased 62% on colleges campuses. Anti-Gay slurs are common, and students claim teachers seldom do anything.
This article examines Seacrest High School that had major violent episodes between Asian-American and African-American students. While trying to decide how to deal with the violence and school safety, the other components of the school went by the wayside. All of this was chronicled in the media and an ensuing court order forced the school district to take measures that secured the safety of the students that attended the school. Although not done on purpose, the subsequent result was a neglect of academics and the overall school culture. The focus on safety, created during a chaotic approach to school improvement, led to a loss of focus of content knowledge, critical thinking skills, social-emotional support for students, and moral reasoning.
There are many different factors that can lead to student to the fringe. Bullying is a huge influence on schools and the students within those schools. Most students that hit their breaking point in school are kids that just do not fit in or feel like they are not accepted by others. The transition into high school can be a big change from lower grades and also at high school age other students seem to be more critical toward their peers. As is to being bullied there are is a different side and that is what drives a person to
These forms of discrimination are still common within school systems, and continue to affect the lives of many students(Expereiences of racism). We will attempt to critically examine the forms of racism and classism experienced in the classrooms today, and seek out a solution to lessening these forms of injustices in school communities. Firstly, this is related to education in that the act of treating someone differently, usually in a negative manner, is still
This would cause the students to become very suspicious—always questioning the legitimacy of different ideas. That is to say, children who were brought up in residential schools usually had a large range of trust issues, and consequently, lacked compassion for others. Finally, a disturbing quantity of students—both male and female—were raped by nuns and priests. You could only imagine the kind of impact that could have on an individual. Some students were considered lucky, if it only happened once, for many children were raped constantly, and some were even impregnated by their abuser.
When in the course of human events, adolescents have different mindsets that acquire different types of interest. Many students in high school have different interests like sports, science, math, engineering, or performing arts. In school, there has been major problems because if students have different interests, it creates stereotypes. This implies to teachers and staff to end this problem, because in this case it can evolve to bullying and tormenting others. I should declare this because this because many people have gotten hurt and being intimidated, and have less chance of being communal.
In all face-to face and cyberbullying examples and stories, the victim suffers from many “negative physical, school, and mental health issues.” ("Effects of Bullying"). They also can experience depression, anxiety, feeling sad and lonely, “changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy. He claimed “Students are pushed into a constant mood and discontent and reckless behavior because of school restricts them to an insular environment for the greater portion of their week”(Raskin 5). He justifies that school can make students turn their focus inward, making them self-pitting and high-strung. He justifies that behaviors like these can affect students who are financially unstable and those who are financially stable differently. The reasons for why students cheat is important, but how students cheat is also important. In an article I read dealt with the topic of how students cheat.
There are many battles we people go through during times where we are forced to walk down a path of terror. In high school this may be the bullies and having to maintain masculinity as a student or even having to suffer abuse at home. “The Mask You Live In” Discusses many of these issues that teens must face such as being bullied, sad, depressed and the issues on suicide. There also can be a silver lining in to masculinity as there is in everything but our main focus will be how it hurts our children. Masculinity can be a very destructive force towards kids and cause them to go down a darker path that no one should eve face.
